Job summary

QinetiQ Limited is seeking a 2nd Line Support Engineer to deliver high-quality 2nd line support across IT systems, infrastructure, applications and services for a MoD programme at the Hereford site. The role involves incident resolution, system maintenance and change implementation within a secure environment.

You will work with customers, vendors and internal teams to maintain availability, security and performance.

Qualifications

• Experience in IT support, infrastructure or 2nd line support roles.
• Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, firewalls).
• Experience with Windows and/or Linux environments and system administration.
• Experience using ITSM/Service Desk tools within ITIL-aligned environments.
• Understanding of cloud concepts and modern IT operations.

Responsibilities

• Resolve incidents and service requests across IT services and technologies.
• Support system administration, maintenance, patching and configuration activities.
• Collaborate with customers, vendors and internal teams to ensure timely issue resolution.
• Implement changes per change management processes and document procedures.
• Be willing to participate in outside hours rota.

The Role

As an L2 Support Engineer, you\'ll play a key role in delivering high-quality 2nd line support across a diverse range of IT systems, infrastructure, applications and services. This is a rare opportunity to join a newly formed team supporting a major Ministry of Defence programme as QinetiQ embarks on an exciting new five-year contract.

Day-to-day, you\'ll provide technical support, incident resolution, system maintenance and change implementation while working closely with customers, vendors and internal engineering teams. You\'ll help maintain the availability, security and performance of critical systems operating within a highly secure environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Resolving incidents and service requests across a broad range of IT services and technologies
• Supporting system administration, maintenance, patching and configuration activities
• Working closely with customers, third-party suppliers and internal support teams to ensure timely issue resolution
• Implementing technical changes in accordance with established change management processes
• Producing accurate technical documentation, reports and operational procedures
• Willingness to be part of the outside hours rota

Essential experience of the 2nd Line Support Engineer:

• At least 3 years\' experience in an IT Support, Infrastructure Support or 2nd Line Support role
• Experience administering and troubleshooting Windows and/or Linux environments
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching and firewalls
• Experience patching, maintaining and supporting enterprise systems and infrastructure
• Experience using ITSM and Service Desk tools within an ITIL-aligned environment
• Understanding of cloud computing concepts and modern IT operational practices

Essential qualifications for the 2nd Line Support Engineer:

• Current DV (Developed Vetting) clearance
• Minimum of 3 years\' professional IT support experience
• Experience working within highly secure or restricted environments
