Job summary

Briggs Marine Group in Plymouth, UK, is seeking an experienced marine engineer to maintain and repair all machinery and electrical equipment on board our vessel. You will build effective relationships with the Master and external stakeholders, with a shift pattern of 3 weeks on / 1 week off.

The role requires an Engine Course Level II, STCW training, proven experience on small vessels, and knowledge of vessel operations, ICT Office applications, and fleet management systems.

Responsibilities

• Consult daily with the Master to maximise economy while maintaining safety and navigation
• Ensure compliance with Oil and Environmental Pollution Prevention Legislation and train crew on Emergency Procedures
• Plan and supervise all maintenance and both normal and emergency repairs for maximum reliability
• Perform regular inspections of machinery and spaces
• Oversee bunkering, transfers of fuel/lubricants, ballast and fresh water
• Co-ordinate with external stakeholders to maintain vessel operations and readiness

The Role

Overall responsibility for maintenance and repair of all machinery and electrical equipment (deck and engine) onboard the vessel. Building effective relationships with external stakeholders to instill trust and confidence in the Company. Shift pattern 3 weeks on/1 week off.

Key Responsibilities

• Consult at least daily with the Master to achieve the maximum economy consistent with the minimum efficiency required. Keeping the Master fully informed of any occurrences in the engine room or deck equipment which might affect navigation or the essential services under his or her control.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant Oil and Environmental Pollution Prevention Legislation and to ensure that all responsible crew are familiar with Emergency Procedures, Contingency Plans and capable of operating all Safety and Pollution Prevention equipment and appliance.
• Ensure that all Planned Maintenance and both normal and emergency repair work is carried out. Ensuring that all work is planned for minimum disruption to the vessel’s overall programme and maximum reliability and availability of the plant.
• Make regular inspections of machinery and machinery spaces.
• Be responsible for the bunkering of the vessel and ensuring that the quantity and quality is as ordered.
• Arranging all transfers of fuel/lubricant oil/ballast/fresh water and checking plans with the Master prior to actioning.

The Candidate

• Approved Engine Couse Level II
• Training according to STCW Regulations
• Proven track record of working on small vessels
• Knowledge of the operational processes of the vessel, ICT Office applications and fleet management systems
• Knowledge of and experience with the operation of all technical installations on board
