Job summary

Briggs Marine Group in the United Kingdom is seeking a Port Services Operative (Tug) to help berth and unberth vessels safely, operate linkspans, and marshal traffic across the port. The role covers freight and passenger check-in, IMDG cargo checks, and forklift operations under the guidance of Tug Masters and pilots.

You will demonstrate our safety culture, maintain high standards of customer service, and work flexibly across Briggs sites.

Qualifications

• Experience of working in a marine/terminal operation facility.
• Experience of working with quayside operations.
• Experience in HGVs or Tug Master vehicles.
• Full, clean, manual driving licence.
• City & Guilds Mooring Appreciation Certificate.
• Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.
• Flexible approach to working hours.
• Good standard of education in numeracy and literacy.

Responsibilities

• Promote a strong safety culture – Safe Out, Safe Home.
• Moor and unmoor vessels safely under vessel pilots or crew.
• Direct traffic and marshal operations in loading and waiting areas.
• Operate a handheld VHF radio to communicate with colleagues or vessels.
• Assist in baggage handling requirements for foot passengers.
• Carry out duties across Briggs sites as required.
• Safe operation of Tug Master and unaccompanied freight within operations.
• Attend and undertake training to comply with regulations.

The Role

The Port Services Operative (Tug)is responsible forsupporting the safe and efficient berthing and unberthing of vessels, operatinglinkspans, marshallingtrafficfor the loading and discharge of vessels acrossvarious locations both in and around the Port. The role includesfreight andpassengercheck-in, checking of IMDG cargo,vessel husbandryactivitiesandforklift operations. TooperateTug Masters to transportunaccompaniedtrailer and freight, carrying outloading,dischargeand shunting operations within the Port. Todemonstratecompany values in all interactions with customers and colleagues,ensuringwork is carried out to the highest standards.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Promote a strong safety culture – Safe Out, Safe Home.

• Ensure all work is conducted in full compliance with Company Health, Safety and Environmental Policies, associated site safety regulations and good industry practice.

• Be pro-active with the Company Safety Management System anddemonstratesafe working practices during all working activities.

• Promote ideas which will increase efficiency, reduce costs or time without compromising service standards and present to line manager.

• To always present a high standard of customer service, personalconductand representation of the service in line with Company values and standards.

• Communicate effectively with Managers, team leaders,colleaguesand other stakeholders, to provide an effective and professional service.

• Work, as directed, by Managers, team leadersregardingother port operations as may berequired.

• Support team performance by sharing knowledge and best practice at all levels.

• To moor and unmoor vesselsin accordance withsafe working practices and under the direction of vessel pilots or crew members.

• Assistin baggage handling requirements for foot passengers.

• Passenger and freight terminal operations. Operating a handheld VHF radio for communicating with colleagues or vessels.

• Driving a company vehicle for the purpose of transporting yourself and other work colleagues to a work site.

• OperateRoRolinkspans asrequired.

• Marshall and direct traffic for loading,dischargeand waiting areas.

• Carry out any other dutiesdeemedappropriate bythe management, at any other Briggs sites.

• Safe operation of all Tug Master and unaccompanied freight within the operations.

• Attend and undertake training asrequiredtocomply withCompany regulations and legislative requirements.
