Reach South Academy Trust seeks an outstanding Humanities & RE Lead Teacher for Gloucestershire Academy for Inspirational Learning. The post is full-time, permanent, at 32.5 hours per week, located at GAIL in Gloucester.

You will drive a coherent Humanities/RE curriculum and lead standards in an MALD specialist setting. The role requires QTS, strong subject knowledge, and leadership experience, with a focus on inclusion, safeguarding and school improvement within a 200-pupil, 4–16 environment

FTE Salary Range: MPS 1 - UPS 3 + TLR2A; £32,916 - £51,047 + £3,527 + £2,787

Contract Type: Permanent, full time

We are seeking an outstanding and ambitious Humanities and RE Lead Teacher who will be primarily class-based, delivering high-quality teaching whilst providing strategic leadership for Humanities and RE across the school. Working collaboratively with colleagues across all key stages, the successful candidate will drive the development of a coherent, ambitious and inclusive Humanities and RE curriculum, ensuring clear progression, sequential learning and the development for all pupils. They will oversee curriculum planning, assessment and subject improvement, ensuring that learning builds systematically from one stage to the next and meets the diverse needs of our learners. This role is central to our vision of providing an inclusive, nurturing environment where every pupil is supported to achieve their full potential within our specialist setting for children and young people with Moderate and Additional Learning Difficulties (MALD).

About the role

As Head of Humanities & RE, you will:

• Provide strategic leadership across Humanities and Religious Education
• Set and communicate a clear vision and ethos that raises standards and aspirations
• Lead, manage and develop a team of staff through coaching, mentoring and performance management
• Ensure consistently high-quality teaching and learning across all subjects and key stages
• Be accountable for student progress, tackling underachievement and promoting inclusion
• Oversee curriculum design, assessment, accreditation and enrichment opportunities
• Contribute to whole-school development, self-evaluation and inspection readiness
• Teach your subject area to a high standard alongside leadership responsibilities

You will be accountable for curriculum quality, student progress, staff development and the effective use of resources, while championing wellbeing, safeguarding and inclusive practice.

About the School

Gloucestershire Academy for Inspirational Learning is a specialist school for 200 pupils aged 4-16 opening at the start of 2027, with pupils phasing into the school across three years.

The school’s designation is Moderate and Additional Learning Difficulties (MALD) and will cater for autistic pupils, those with speech and language differences, SEMH and those with learning differences in their cognitive profiles.

The school will be based in the Wheatridge area of Gloucestershire in a brand-new purpose-built building with outstanding facilities specifically tailored for SEND learners.
