NHS Scotland seeks a Lead Pharmacist for Medical Education to develop and deliver prescribing education to medical students and foundation year doctors. This role offers a unique opportunity to enhance educational practices while maintaining clinical expertise within the Pharmacy Department at Western General Hospital, Edinburgh.

Are you a pharmacist with an interest in teaching safe prescribing? Do you want to support and develop medical education? This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Education, Research & Development (ERD) and Medical Education (MED) teams. The position offers you the chance to lead and deliver specialist prescribing education and training to University of Edinburgh Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) medical students (whilst on placement in NHS Lothian) and to NHS Lothian foundation year doctors
Based within the Pharmacy Department (ERD Team) at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, you will work across NHS Lothian sites and Health and Social Care Partnerships (HSCPs) and will have a close working relationship with colleagues in the MED Team.
About the Role
The post holder will work with the existing Lead Pharmacist Medical Education and will liaise with senior colleagues in medicine and in pharmacy to agree educational needs to improve the safe prescribing of medicines. This post provides a personal development opportunity for an experienced clinical pharmacist to further develop their education and service improvement / evaluation skills at the same time as continuing to maintain and develop competence in expert practice whilst undertaking the educational role. It also provides an opportunity to engage with the wider healthcare system with strategic and operational responsibility in the patient safety agenda.
Part time/Job Share working will be considered.

About you
You will be expected to have specialised pharmaceutical knowledge and extensive experience of clinical decision making around the prescribing of medicines to support their role in co-ordination, design and delivery of clinical teaching. Experience of development of training programmes and delivery of teaching would be advantageous.
Candidates must have a Master of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and should have completed a Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma or Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Pharmacy or be able to demonstrate competence to the level of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Core Advanced Curriculum.
Candidates who have not completed a Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy must demonstrate substantial progress across the four pillars of the RPS Core Advanced Pharmacist Curriculum through:
Candidates who have completed a Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy should complete the learning needs analysis (LNA) using the LNA tool in the RPS e-portfolio, identifying any gaps that will need addressed as part of PDP plans.
