Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with SEND in a mainstream Merseyside secondary school. The role suits graduates or experienced assistants and involves close work with pupils across KS3/KS4 to enhance learning and personal development.

You will adapt learning materials, promote confidence, behaviour, and independence, and collaborate with teaching staff and the SEND department to implement support strategies.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND needs is desirable.
  • A degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, or a related subject is beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience working within mainstream secondary schools or educational settings is desirable.
  • Open to both recent graduates and experienced Learning Support Assistants.

1:1 Learning Support Assistant - Mainstream Secondary SEND Support

Milk Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in Merseyside to recruit a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to start as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate graduate, aspiring teacher, or experienced Learning Support Assistant who is keen to support pupils with SEND needs and help them achieve both academically and personally within a mainstream secondary school setting.

This role is open to both recent graduates looking to gain valuable classroom experience and experienced support staff seeking their next opportunity within secondary education. Whether you are beginning your career in education or bringing established experience supporting young people with additional needs, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a supportive school environment.

The Role as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant:

As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils across KS3 and KS4 who require additional support due to SEND needs within a mainstream secondary school environment. You will provide tailored classroom support, help students engage with learning, and promote confidence, independence, and positive behaviour throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant:
  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with SEND needs across KS3 and KS4
  • Support students in accessing learning activities within the classroom
  • Adapt learning materials and approaches to meet individual needs
  • Build positive relationships to encourage confidence, engagement, and progress
  • Support pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs where required
  • Work closely with teaching staff and the SEND department to implement support strategies
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and SENCO staff
  • Promote inclusion, independence, and positive behaviour within the school environment
  • Assist with classroom management and general learning support when needed
The Ideal Candidate as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND needs is desirable
  • A degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, or a related subject is beneficial but not essential
  • Experience working within mainstream secondary schools or educational settings is desirable
  • Open to both recent graduates and experienced Learning Support Assistants
  • Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting young people
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Passion for education and supporting students with additional needs
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
