Job summary

Dorset Council UK is seeking a compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a named child with type 1 diabetes in a primary setting. The role focuses on safeguarding the child's learning, wellbeing, and inclusion within the school community.

You will collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and staff to ensure consistent, supportive care, with training provided for diabetes awareness and classroom strategies. This term-time position is fixed until August 2027.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young children, ideally in a primary school or similar setting.
• Understanding of Type 1 diabetes; training can be provided.
• Ability to build trusting relationships and maintain consistency.
• Patient, nurturing and adaptable to changing needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to a child, in line with individual learning and care needs.
• Support emotional, social and academic development in classroom and activities.
• Work with teaching staff and parents to implement and adapt learning strategies.
• Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Assist with record keeping and observations as required.
