Leigh and Bransford Primary School in the West Midlands is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide consistent, skilled support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder and EHCP goals. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and families to enable learning, independence, and emotional regulation.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEND, especially in communication, social, emotional and mental health areas.
  • Ability to deliver small group or 1:1 interventions.
  • Understanding executive functioning challenges and strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and its impact on learning and interaction.
  • Ability to respond to sensory needs with movement breaks and sensory strategies.
  • Experience with emotional regulation strategies.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and differentiated learning.
  • Strong ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Proficiency in using visual supports, routines and positive behaviour approaches.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient, empathetic manner.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, skilled support for a pupil with ASD and related needs.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO, parents and external professionals to enable learning and independence.
  • Support access to learning and help regulate emotions and anxiety.
  • Help the pupil build positive relationships with peers and staff.
  • Implement movement breaks and sensory support strategies.
  • Use visual supports and structured routines to support learning.
  • Contribute to the pupil's EHCP outcomes in collaboration with the team.

JobPurpose andkey skills:

Toprovide consistent, skilled and nurturing support for a pupil with AutismSpectrum Disorder and associated social, emotional, communication, sensory andexecutive functioning difficulties. The Teaching Assistant will work closelywith the class teacher, SENCO, parents and external professionals to enable thepupil to access learning, develop independence, regulate emotions, buildpositive relationships and achieve the outcomes identified within theirEducation, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Essential:
  • Experiencesupporting children with SEND, particularly in areas such as communication andinteraction, and social, emotional and mental health.
  • Experience delivering small groupor 1:1 interventions.
  • Experiencing supporting pupils withexecutive functioning difficulties.
  • Strong understanding of Autism SpectrumDisorder (ASD) and how it affects learning, communication and socialinteraction.
  • Ability to recognise and respond tosensory needs, including implementing movement breaks and sensory supportstrategies.
  • Knowledge of emotional regulationstrategies.
  • Strong understanding of inclusiveeducation and differentiated learning.
  • Abilityto build trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Skilledin using visual supports, structured routines, and positive behaviourstrategies.
  • Excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible,patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Patience,empathy and emotional resilience, remaining calm and supportive during periodsof anxiety or dysregulation.
Desirable:
  • Trainingin English, reading and mathematics and a knowledge of the Key Stage 2curriculum.
  • Knowledge of effective modelling,scaffolding and multisensory learning.
  • Familiaritywith EHCPs and multi-agency working.
