Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment are seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant in Blackpool to support a secondary student with ASC and ADHD under an EHCP.

You will work Monday to Friday 8:30-3:30 during term-time, 30–32.5 hours weekly, with paid school holidays and a long-term placement for the 2026/27 year.

The role focuses on personalised support, sensory and emotional regulation, differentiation, and collaboration with the SENCO and teachers.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience supporting secondary-aged young people with Autism (ASC), ADHD, or related neurodivergent profiles.
  • Calm, reassuring and consistent approach with neurodiverse learning styles.
  • Background in school SEND support, youth work, or relevant psychology/education fields.
  • Training in de-escalation or positive handling is advantageous.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one before start.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personalised 1:1 support to a designated secondary pupil across subjects.
  • Differentiate tasks and use visual timetables to support ADHD attention spans.
  • Identify sensory/emotional triggers and implement movement breaks and quiet-space strategies.
  • Support positive peer interactions during group work and breaks.
  • Monitor targets and document daily progress with teachers and SENCO.

Are you a patient, adaptable support assistant passionate about helping neurodivergent students thrive in secondary education?

A supportive secondary school in Blackpool is recruiting a dedicated 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to a student with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) starting this September 2026.

In this targeted role, you will work closely with a Key Stage 3 / Key Stage 4 pupil diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), helping them access the curriculum, regulate sensory and emotional needs, and build lasting academic confidence.

Position Overview:
  • Job Title: 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant (EHCP Support - ASC / ADHD)

  • Location: Blackpool, Lancashire (Easily accessible via M55, local bus routes, and Blackpool rail links)

  • Start Date: September 2026

  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (Term-time only - 30 to 32.5 hours/week)

  • Pay Rate: .00+ per day (PAYE, based on experience and SEND qualifications)

  • Contract: Full-time, long-term placement for the 2026/27 academic year with permanent contract routes

Key Responsibilities:
  • Personalised 1:1 Support: Provide consistent, structured learning support to a designated secondary student across academic subjects.

  • Task Differentiation & Focus: Break down complex instructions into manageable steps, using visual timetables, chunked tasks, and focus strategies to support ADHD attention spans.

  • Sensory & Emotional Regulation: Identify early signs of sensory overload or anxiety, implementing planned movement breaks, low-arousal techniques, and quiet-space strategies.

  • Promoting Social Independence: Support positive peer interactions during group work and unstructured break times while encouraging independent problem-solving skills.

  • EHCP Milestone Tracking: Work in partnership with subject teachers, the SENCO, and outside specialists to monitor targets and document daily progress.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Demonstrated experience supporting secondary-aged young people with Autism (ASC), ADHD, or related neurodivergent profiles.

  • Calm, reassuring, and consistent approach with a genuine understanding of neurodiverse learning styles.

  • Background in school SEND support, healthcare/care, youth work, or relevant psychology/education degrees.

  • Certified training in de-escalation or positive handling (e.g., Team Teach, CPI, MAPA) is advantageous.

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to process a check before September).
