1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant
Bootle, Sefton
£92.56-£100 per day
Monday-Friday, 8:45am-3:45pm
Starting 2 November | Long-term, ongoing position

Vision for Education is recruiting a dedicated and experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil at a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Bootle.

This is a full-time, long-term position starting on 2 November and continuing throughout the academic year. The school has a supportive leadership team, an experienced SEND department and a strong commitment to ensuring every child receives the individual support they need to succeed.

The role

You will provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with moderate learning difficulties, a limited attention span and additional communication and emotional-regulation needs.

The pupil requires continuous adult supervision due to having very limited awareness of danger. They can also find demands and transitions away from preferred activities difficult, so the successful Teaching Assistant must be calm, patient and confident in responding to periods of frustration or dysregulation.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing continuous 1:1 supervision to maintain the pupil's safety


• Supporting learning through practical, visual and play-based activities


• Breaking tasks down into short, manageable steps


• Using visual strategies such as Now and Next boards, visual choices and Stop/Go prompts


• Delivering clear, simple instructions and allowing appropriate processing time


• Supporting the pupil to regulate their emotions and manage transitions


• Encouraging positive communication and interaction with adults and peers


• Using the pupil's interests, including music, numbers, sensory activities and puzzles, to increase engagement


• Working closely with the class teacher and SEND team to follow the pupil's individual support plan


• Providing access to a quieter working space when the classroom becomes overwhelming

The ideal candidate

The school is looking for someone who is nurturing and encouraging while also being able to maintain clear and consistent boundaries. You should be observant, proactive and able to build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil.

Experience supporting children with SEND, learning difficulties, communication needs or behaviours that can challenge would be highly beneficial. Experience using visual communication strategies is also desirable.

Requirements

• Previous experience supporting children or young people


• A calm, patient and consistent approach


• Confidence providing intensive 1:1 SEND support


• Good communication and teamwork skills


• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one


• Suitable references covering recent employment
