Job summary

Teach Now Limited is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to support a non-speaking child in Reception at a Barnet primary school. This 1:1 role involves working with the class teacher and SENCo to remove barriers to learning, using AAC and visual supports, and promoting inclusion from the start of school.

Immediate start with a long-term temporary contract. The ideal candidate will have EYFS/Reception SEND experience, be calm and patient, and able to collaborate with the EYFS team to foster

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEND in EYFS or Reception.
• Understanding of non-speaking or minimally speaking pupils.
• Experience using visuals, AAC, Makaton, PECS or similar strategies.
• Knowledge of sensory and emotional-regulation needs.
• Strong relationship-building and teamwork skills.
• A calm, patient and child-centred approach.
• Ability to support inclusion while promoting independence.
• Right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Providing consistent, child-centred 1:1 support.
• Helping the child access routines, learning, play and transitions.
• Using visual timetables, Now/Next boards, symbols, gestures and choice boards.
• Supporting AAC, signing or other communication systems where appropriate.
• Adapting activities, resources and adult language.
• Encouraging meaningful communication, interaction and friendships.
• Supporting emotional and sensory regulation.
• Promoting independence and avoiding unnecessary adult dependence.
• Recording observations and sharing feedback with relevant staff.
• Preparing practical and visual communication resources.
• Following safeguarding, confidentiality and health and safety procedures.
