Job summary

Cover People in Manchester is seeking an enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary school in Trafford, supporting a Y5 pupil with Autism and complex needs. The role is 1:1, full-time, ASAP start, with daily rate £100–£115 DOE and a 8:30am–3:30pm schedule.

You’ll provide dedicated 1:1 support, build trust with the pupil, and collaborate with teaching and specialist staff to promote learning, communication and independence while managing challenging behaviours.

Qualifications

• CV with full education and employment history.
• Minimum 3 months' verifiable experience supporting young people.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
• Minimum of 2 professional references covering the last 2 years.
• Positive, consistent and resilient approach.
• Genuine enthusiasm for supporting children with SEND.
• Overseas police certificate, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a primary-aged pupil, helping them access learning and take part in school life.
• Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day.
• Build a trusting relationship with the pupil.
• Support learning, communication and engagement.
• Help develop independence and social skills.
• Use positive strategies to support emotional regulation and behaviour. Remain calm and consistent when challenging behaviour occurs.
• Adapt activities and support around the pupil's individual needs.
• Work closely with the class teacher and wider specialist team.
• Passionate about supporting pupils with SEND.
