Job summary

ACE Bretonside is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Learning Mentor to provide individualised support to learners who may need extra guidance to engage positively with education and achieve personal and learning goals.

The successful candidate will build positive, trusting relationships with learners, helping them to develop confidence, independence, resilience and the skills to progress. You will work with staff and other professionals to meet each learner's needs.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting learners in education, care, mentoring or similar settings.
• Commitment to helping learners overcome barriers to education.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build professional relationships while maintaining boundaries.
• Patience, empathy and a calm approach when supporting learners.
• Ability to adapt support to individual needs and work as part of a team.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting learner welfare.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information. A full, valid driving licence and access to a vehicle, with business insurance for required use.

Responsibilities

• Provide consistent, personalised 1:1 support to an allocated learner.
• Build a positive, professional and trusting relationship with the learner.
• Support the learner to engage with lessons and the wider college environment.
• Help learners develop confidence, motivation, independence and self-esteem.
• Encourage positive behaviour, attendance and engagement with learning.
• Break down tasks into manageable steps and support with organisation and study skills.
• Help learners identify personal, educational and vocational goals.
• Collaborate with teachers, families/carers and external professionals where appropriate.
• Share progress observations with staff and contribute to support plans and reviews.
• Maintain accurate records of support and learner progress, ensuring safeguarding and confidentiality.
• Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and respect in all aspects of the role.
