Job summary

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, experienced 1:1 Science Tutor in Leominster to support a learner accessing EOTAS/Alternative Provision. The role focuses on rebuilding confidence and scientific understanding in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with tailored lessons for GCSE preparation.

The tutor should be able to adapt pace and resources to the learner’s needs, create a calm learning environment, and work with safeguarding procedures while reporting progress to parents and the support team.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting young people in EOTAS/Alternative Provision.
• Ability to adapt teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual needs.
• Strong safeguarding commitment and DBS checks.
• Solid science knowledge across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
• In-person tutoring role based in Leominster.

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced 1:1 Science Tutor to provide personalised tuition to a young person accessing EOTAS/Alternative Provision in Leominster.

The successful tutor will have experience supporting young people who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education and be confident adapting their teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual needs. The role will focus on rebuilding confidence and engagement with learning while supporting the young person's academic progress in Science.

Experience working with EOTAS, Alternative Provision, SEND and/or SEMH learners would be highly desirable. The ability to build a strong, trusting relationship and create a calm, positive learning environment will be particularly important.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role may involve:

• Delivering personalised one-to-one Science tuition.
• Supporting a secondary-aged learner accessing EOTAS/Alternative Provision.
• Planning and delivering engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging Science lessons.
• Adapting teaching methods, resources and pace to meet the learner's individual needs.
• Identifying gaps in scientific knowledge and providing targeted support.
• Supporting areas of Biology, Chemistry and Physics as appropriate.
• Breaking down scientific concepts into clear and manageable steps.
• Developing scientific reasoning, problem-solving and enquiry skills.
• Supporting GCSE Science preparation and assessments where appropriate.
• Helping the learner re-engage with education and develop a positive attitude towards learning.
• Supporting confidence, resilience and independence.
• Providing a calm and structured learning environment.
• Adapting sessions where the learner is experiencing anxiety, disengagement or other barriers to learning.
• Monitoring progress and adapting tuition accordingly.
• Providing appropriate feedback to parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's support.
• Building a positive and trusting relationship with the young person.
• Working collaboratively with the wider support team.
• Maintaining professional boundaries and following safeguarding procedures.

Essential requirements:

• Strong Science subject knowledge with the ability to support secondary-aged learners.
• Experience working with children or young people with SEND, SEMH, EOTAS and/or Alternative Provision needs.
• Experience delivering one-to-one tuition or personalised educational support is desirable.
• Understanding of the barriers that can prevent young people from accessing mainstream education.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods, resources and pace according to the learner's individual needs.
• Patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
• Ability to build trust with young people who may have experienced difficulties within education.
• Confidence creating a positive, structured and supportive learning environment.
• Good organisational skills and a professional approach.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
