Job summary

GSL Education in Colchester is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with autism in a full-time, long-term role starting as soon as possible. You will work closely with the class teacher and the school SEN team to help the pupil access the curriculum and feel confident in lessons.

The role focuses on building a trusting relationship, supporting daily routines, and promoting inclusion within a nurturing school community.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children in a school or childcare setting.
• Calm, patient, and supportive approach.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Commitment to helping a pupil access the curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil during lessons and activities.
• Help the pupil understand tasks and stay engaged in learning.
• Support the pupil with daily classroom routines and transitions.
• Assist the teacher and SENCO in applying appropriate strategies.
• Collaborate with the class teacher to adapt activities for accessibility.
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
