Job summary

GSL Education in Exeter is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school community ASAP. You will provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex needs, working closely with teachers, SENCOs and therapists.

The role requires patience, empathy and strong teamwork, with duties including implementing targets, safeguarding and contributing to an inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with autism or SEN is desirable.
• Calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting pupils with additional needs.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Positive, flexible, and proactive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex needs.
• Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
• Assist in implementing EHCP targets, behaviour plans, and individual support strategies.
• Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals.
• Promote pupils' independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
• Follow care plans, safeguarding procedures, and school policies at all times.
