It collaborates with regional offices, the African World Heritage Fund, advisory bodies, and academic institutions.

Job Purpose

The Associate Project Officer (Culture) will be responsible for planning, coordinating, developing, and implementing projects aimed at strengthening the capacities of African States Parties. This includes projects focused on identifying, preparing, and advancing World Heritage nominations, as well as reinforcing the conservation and management of heritage sites. This involves supporting project planning, coordination, monitoring, reporting, budget follow-up, and liaising with national authorities, experts, donors, and partners. Assist in organizing and delivering capacity-building activities such as workshops, training sessions, and expert missions to improve the skills of heritage professionals and local stakeholders. Support States Parties in engaging with World Heritage processes, including tentative lists, nominations, and management frameworks, ensuring alignment with national priorities and sustainable practices. Contribute to the development of conceptual frameworks and operational tools for Modern Heritage initiatives. Undertake administrative, financial, and operational follow-up of project activities, including contract preparation, monitoring, reporting, and communication, while supporting resource mobilization and conservation strategies for African heritage.
