Description du poste

Fluidion is an innovative SME focused on developing advanced automated solutions for water quality monitoring: https://fluidion.com/. Our cutting-edge systems perform complex chemical and bacteriological assessments autonomously, offering high-resolution monitoring of chemical and microbiological pollution in various environments—ranging from drinking water reservoirs and recreational areas to natural ecosystems. By reducing risks for users and generating crucial scientific data, our solutions help safeguard public health and the environment.

In addition to our advanced measurement instruments, we design aquatic drones to deploy sensors and create pollution maps, further enhancing the scope of our monitoring capabilities. Our technologies incorporate microfluidics, 3D printing, machine learning, IoT connectivity, and automated data processing, allowing real-time water quality data to be remotely analyzed and visualized by our clients.

Operating internationally, Fluidion partners with private businesses, government bodies, and environmental agencies in cities like Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and also with large international organizations such as the UN. Notably, in the Île-de-France region, we contribute to major projects such as bacteriological monitoring of the Seine for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the active management of La Villette Basin for safe summer swimming. We collaborate with renowned scientific institutes across Europe and the U.S.

Our team is young, diverse, and multidisciplinary. Interns are a key part of our dynamic environment, working on real-world, leading-edge projects. Internship opportunities span fields like microbiology, analytical chemistry, electronics, and business development. Exceptional interns may have the chance to publish their research or join our team after graduation, with possibilities for fixed-term or permanent contracts, apprenticeships, or international assignments through VIE programs.

Why Join Us?

  • Rapidly growing company—lots of opportunities
  • Young, multidisciplinary, athletic, and international team
  • Use of disruptive technologies
  • Strong environmental impact
  • Nice, dynamic and modern work environment
  • Easily accessible by metro

Internship Topic:

Our intern in the Chemistry team will be involved in an R&D project aiming at developing a microfluidic nutrient sensor for the deep ocean monitoring:

  • Develop an analytical protocol to measure nitrate in seawater by colorimetry
  • Transpose and optimize the nitrate laboratory protocol on the fluidion microfluidic analyzer
  • Test and characterize the metrological capacities of the fluidion microfluidic analyzer
  • Establish calibration procedures of the fluidion microfluidic analyzer using bench-top laboratory instrumentation as reference over the measurement range.
  • Quality control of the results from the autonomous sensor system and laboratory inter-comparison.
  • Possible field work: seawater sampling, sensor deployment in the bay of Marseille

Desired Profile:

We are looking for motivated and talented students to assist in the development of our chemical analyzers.

If you are inventive, interested by sensors development and laboratory experimentations, with good knowledge of standard laboratory equipment, procedures and safety this should be enough to get you onboard. In addition, experience in spectrophotometric measurements as well as skills in data plotting and manipulation in Excel and/or programming languages such as Matlab/Python would be helpful. Are you autonomous and ready to work in a start-up and international environment?

Then, welcome onboard!

This internship will take place in Marseille in our laboratory based at the Mediterranean Institute of Oceanography, Luminy.

If you are interested in joining us, please send your CV, grades and short motivation text to < email deleted for security reasons > and include the reference number in the subject of the email. If we like your profile, you will be contacted for an interview and a skills test.
