Job Description:

Within shared administration, the Social Cohesion – City Policy service is attached to the social development directorate.

Neighborhood mediation is part of the Social Cohesion service of the city of Argentan. It consists of two mediators and the coordinator for prevention and neighborhood life, who manages their organization and work follow-up.

The neighborhood mediators usually work in pairs and mainly operate in the city’s priority neighborhoods under the City Policy.

Their actions are part of a proximity service project aimed at residents, defined by the community and led by the neighborhood life coordinator. The general objective is to improve residents' living environment, strengthen community cohesion, and promote public tranquility.

They collaborate with various local partners (landlords, associations, social services, schools, etc.) and have a thorough knowledge of the territory.

Responsibilities / Conditions of Practice:

  • Foster and develop social links in neighborhoods
  • Facilitate dialogue and communication with residents
  • Ensure physical presence in neighborhoods (neighborhood tours, door-to-door visits)
  • Encourage residents’ involvement in improving their living environment and support them in organizing activities and projects
  • Participate in neighborhood and city events
  • Assist and guide residents to relevant services
  • Meet with local partners and understand local structures and schemes to share useful information (social rights, health, education, associations, etc.)
  • Maintain presence with local structures, associations, partners as needed or in relation to developed projects and activities
  • Prevent and manage conflict situations, tensions, neighborhood disputes
  • Contribute to proximity urban management by reporting dysfunctions and degradations in public spaces
  • Regularly meet with partners involved in crime prevention / public tranquility
