Overview

JOIN OUR TEAM WHERE YOU WILL oversee and manage field crews to construct, alter, repair, maintain, and follow project plans for associated structures and components on railroad and civil construction projects.

Plan and schedule all project requirements to control labor, equipment, and material costs to timely complete assigned projects within established budgets.

Key Accountabilities
  • Manage and direct all employees within each project regarding required work assignments, respond to employee matters, ensure proper training is conducted, and communicate expectations.
  • Pre-plan work activities to develop best means and methods that include appropriate safety action plans.
  • Bring forth a safety-first approach to ensure appropriate practices are in place.
  • Collaborate and communicate with managers, supervisors, team members and customers with a positive, constructive approach that addresses concerns, resolves problems, and is proactive, not reactive.
  • Lead by example, maintain a professional demeanor, and create a positive work environment focused on relationship building to create trust and respect among all.
Daily Oversight and Responsibilities
  • Partner with the General Superintendent and Project Managers to maintain daily/weekly schedules, provide effective production management and reporting, and communicate changes/updates to the existing construction operational plan.
  • Review contracts, project documentation and plans with the General Superintendent and Project Managers to ensure work aligns with the most recent specifications.
  • Conduct daily team meetings to discuss daily work assignments, review safe practices/procedures, and communicate changes vital to the team’s success.
  • Develop a cohesive Foreman and field crew that understands production requirements, fulfills responsibilities, and trains/develops team members to achieve results.
  • Ensure regular checks on work progress to confirm conformity with plans and specifications; engage in discussions of plans and specifications and perform survey and field layout as needed.
  • Oversee field operations resources (employees, equipment, supplies) to meet deadlines, budgets, schedules, and operational requirements; may assist with actual labor or equipment operation to maximize efficiency.
  • Coordinate manpower, materials, and equipment, anticipate needs, and participate in interview, selection and training of employees.
  • Work with subcontractors to communicate issues/concerns within project management and represent the company when communicating with clients when appropriate.
  • Supervise and schedule grading, drainage, paving structures, and other required construction with crews and subcontractors on a daily basis.
  • Train new employees and develop/mentor/coach all employees to provide opportunities for other positions.
  • Assign, maintain, and account for all assigned resources, including radios, equipment, PPE, and other inventory.
  • Incorporate practices that secure PIC property and ensure items are used with safety and security in mind.
  • Participate in weekly calls to provide updates, challenges, solutions, and other details.
  • Uphold Company Values for self and field crews to support commitments made.
  • Ability to travel 75–100% of the time is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Degree in Construction Management or related field required or equivalent experience and knowledge.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of railroad and/or heavy-civil construction experience.
  • Experience with grader, bulldozer, excavator, and other equipment; ability to assign operators and address operational questions/concerns related to equipment.
  • Must be willing to work with the crew to meet deadlines (i.e., run equipment).
  • Specialized knowledge in civil and/or railroad construction, maintenance, repair, and operations techniques related to railway systems.
  • Knowledge of field operations including budget management, field leadership, resource planning, and reading/interpreting changes to project plans.
  • Ability to read blueprints and communicate effectively with internal and external customers, reflecting exceptional customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, make decisions, and support management, employees and company in a positive way.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to a constantly changing environment, and be flexible.
  • Perform all supervisory duties as assigned. Strong team-building skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills including MS Outlook, ProCore navigation, and use of tablets.
Safety Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Director of Safety to create daily safety awareness and ensure necessary measures are adhered to, emphasizing safety protocols.
  • Follow all safety training and procedures, demonstrating safe work practices.
  • Refer to and comply with instructions, requests, orders, and information posted within bulletins, memorandums, rules, and regulatory guidance/manuals.
  • Must be able to complete and pass requirements for background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to obtain eRailSafe badge approval for working on railroad projects along with other associated training.
