Job Overview

The major cultural hub, recognized by the "Opera National" label and also holding the "National Orchestra" label, the Bordeaux National Opera (ONB) offers a season of performances (lyrical and choreographic productions) and concerts (symphonic season, guest artist concerts, etc.). It operates across two venues (Grand Théâtre, Auditorium) and conducts numerous outreach activities to fulfill its dissemination and social engagement missions. The ONB employs approximately 330 permanent staff, including three artistic groups (the Bordeaux Aquitaine National Orchestra, the Ballet of the Opera, and the Opera Choir) and workshops for scenery, costumes, and accessories.

The Orchestra teams are responsible for providing the necessary stage equipment for rehearsals and performances across all venues, including:

  • The scenic material needed for rehearsals and performances
  • A secure stage setup configured according to scenic and acoustic needs during symphonic series.
Responsibilities / Working Conditions

Under the authority of the Artistic and Production Director of ONBA, the Orchestra Manager will be responsible for:

  • Creating layout plans for ONBA formations based on venues and obtaining approval from conductors.
  • Ensuring the secure handling, unloading, and installation of musical instruments and scenic equipment at the Auditorium and other venues.
  • Monitoring technical aspects of rehearsals and shows as scheduled, including concerts, ballets, operas, chamber music, cine-concerts, etc.
  • Managing on-the-fly changes during concerts (scores, piano movements, personnel variations).
  • Maintaining the equipment (cleaning, minor repairs, marking personal equipment, instrument storage).
  • Managing movements of small ensembles.
At the Auditorium
  • Responding to the conductor's requests by operating the stage lifts, orchestra pit, and acoustic curtains via a computer console.
  • Enhancing musicians' comfort by installing platforms and safety barriers.
  • Repositioning mobile seating and safety barriers during performances.
  • Regular maintenance of the stage and orchestra van, and managing storage and equipment inventory.
Candidate Profile

With training in spectacle professions, you should:

  • Master the scenic console and lifting equipment
  • Know equipment and instrument maintenance
  • Be proficient in Office Suite and stage planning software
  • Speak English fluently
  • Hold a valid B and Heavy Vehicle driving license
