Alta Ares seeks a Technical Writer to own the documentation of its product suite, producing manuals, user guides, interface specifications, and operational references for military operators, system integrators, and institutional clients to deploy and use Alta Ares' platforms with confidence.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Pre & Post Sales to translate deeply technical content into structured, accessible documentation.

Qualifications

• Own the full suite of end-user documentation: operator manuals, quick-start guides, field references, system overviews
• Write clear, structured, operational documentation for military end-users
• Develop and maintain documentation for each product line: ISR module, C-UAS platform, MLOps stack, GCS interface

• Maintain a versioned documentation library aligned with product releases and firmware updates

Alta Ares is an air defense Neoprime. We build AI-guided interceptors to counter drones and cruise missiles, along with the software platform that powers them.

Our customers are NATO-aligned militaries and defense institutions, and our systems are regularly deployed during live exercises and operational demonstrations across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Founded in 2024, we have grown to 90 people, raised over $60M, and increased revenue 40× this year. We are now entering a new phase of international expansion, industrial scaling, fundraising, and product development.

ROLE & MISSION

As Technical Writer, you will own the documentation of Alta Ares' product suite — producing the manuals, user guides, interface specifications, and operational references that enable military operators, system integrators, and institutional clients to deploy and use Alta Ares' platforms with confidence.

In defence, documentation is not a nice-to-have. A military operator in a contested environment cannot call the helpdesk. A procurement officer reviewing an acceptance package expects documentation that is precise, complete, and unambiguous. Your work is the last line of clarity between a complex, cutting-edge system and the person who has to operate it under pressure.

You will work closely with Engineering, Product, and the Pre & Post Sales team — translating deeply technical content into structured, accessible, operationally relevant documentation. This is a high-craft, high-ownership role in a company where the quality of your writing directly affects operational outcomes.

PRODUCT DOCUMENTATION — USER GUIDES & OPERATOR MANUALS

• Own the full suite of end-user documentation for Alta Ares’ product portfolio: operator manuals, quick-start guides, field reference cards, and system overviews
• Write clear, structured, and operationally grounded documentation for military end-users — adapting tone, level of detail, and format to the audience (drone operator, system administrator, field commander)
• Develop and maintain documentation for each product line: ISR module, C-UAS platform, MLOps stack, GCS interface, and ground equipment
• Produce multilingual documentation in English and French — ensuring accuracy and consistency across both versions
• Maintain a versioned documentation library aligned with each product release and firmware update

INTERFACE & SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS

• Document software interfaces, system architectures, and hardware integration specifications in collaboration with Engineering
• Produce interface control documents (ICDs), system description documents (SDDs), and integration guides for system integrators and institutional clients
• Translate engineering schematics, API references, and architecture diagrams into human-readable specifications accessible to non-specialist audiences
• Maintain up-to-date configuration guides, parameter references, and software release notes for each product version
• Support the Engineering team in documenting internal technical standards and development guidelines

OPERATIONAL & FIELD DOCUMENTATION

• Develop field-ready documentation adapted to operational environments: laminated quick-reference cards, checklists, and compact field guides
• Produce pre-flight checklists, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting guides for UAV platforms and C-UAS systems
• Create training materials and operational scenario guides for use during client onboarding, field demonstrations, and exercises
• Ensure all field documentation meets the usability requirements of military audiences: clear hierarchy, unambiguous language, and actionable step-by-step instructions

DOCUMENTATION LIFECYCLE & QUALITY MANAGEMENT

• Own the documentation lifecycle end-to-end: planning, drafting, review, validation, versioning, and publication
• Establish and enforce documentation standards across Alta Ares: style guide, terminology glossary, formatting conventions, and review processes
• Coordinate review cycles with Engineering, Product, and Pre & Post Sales teams — ensuring technical accuracy before publication
• Manage the documentation repository in Notion and ensure all documents are findable, versioned, and access-controlled appropriately
• Track and incorporate feedback from field deployments, client reviews, and post-sales observations into documentation updates

CLIENT-FACING DELIVERY DOCUMENTATION

• Produce documentation packages for client deliverables: acceptance test procedures, delivery dossiers, and contractual documentation requirements
• Support the preparation of responses to RFP documentation requirements and compliance matrices
• Contribute to the development of training packages for institutional clients and partner integrators
• Ensure client-facing documentation meets applicable defence documentation standards and contractual specifications

CANDIDATE PROFILE - EXPERIENCE

• 3–5 years of experience in technical writing — with a strong focus on product documentation, user manuals, or operational guides
• Prior experience documenting hardware-software integrated systems — mandatory : you must be comfortable with complex, multi-component products
• Background in defence, aerospace, robotics, deeptech, or dual-use is a strong plus — you understand the operational context in which your documentation will be used
• Experience producing documentation for non-specialist end-users (operators, field technicians) as well as technical audiences (engineers, integrators)
• Prior exposure to documentation lifecycle management and versioning in a product environment
