The Cinematics Team in Montpellier is made up of 70 people dedicated to producing in-game cinematics for Ubisoft’s biggest franchises:Assassin’s Creed,Avatar,Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown,Mario + Rabbids, and more.

From pre-production to final delivery, over twenty different professions are involved in immersing players in our stories.

JOB DESCRIPTION

TheCinematic Designerplays a key role in the creation and integration of cinematics into the game, ensuring they flow seamlessly with the gameplay. They build the structure of the cinematics for the animation, lighting, and other teams, and ensure technical consistency throughout production. In addition to creative and technical skills, this role requires strongcommunication abilitiesto effectively coordinate teams, help resolve complex situations, and ensure every element fits together perfectly.

We are looking for aCinematic Designer (F/M/NB)for an8-month fixed-term contract (CDD)to join the Cinematic Design team at Ubisoft Montpellier.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the setup, integration, and maintenance of in-game cinematics for production teams.
    • Document thepipeline and toolsto support internal knowledge sharing.
    • Prepare for motion capture sessions (identify the location in-game, export it as a 3D scene).
    • Become familiar with the script.
    • Anticipate issues and provide solutions related to technical constraints.
    • Manage technical and creative challenges between cinematic and game production teams.
  • Contribute to problem-solving and stay up to date with technological developments alongside the teams.
    • Become thetechnical referencefor the game editor.
    • Know how to redirect issues to the appropriate contacts.
    • Track and regularly update requests.
    • Actively participate in debugging before the final version is delivered.
  • Be proactive in supporting the creative vision of the direction.
    • Be capable of making creative suggestions for cinematic direction.
QUALIFICATIONS

You have:

  • A solid understanding of engine constraints and various systems in video games
  • Strong cinematic skills, which will be a valuable asset for the role
  • Proficiency with version control software (Perforce, Git, etc.)
  • A background in quest design or level design is a plus. The position is also open to candidates with training in programming or visual scripting
  • Knowledge of 3D animation and video file production is a plus
  • Good skills in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere
  • Effective use of data management tools
  • The ability to work well in a team, with strong organizational skills, adaptability, and open-mindedness

  • Proactive, and able to adapt to different production contexts
  • Autonomous and curious, especially when it comes to learning new skills
  • Communicative, with a strong sense of service—communication and collaboration are at the heart of the cinematic designer’s role
