About the Role:

We are looking for a Tech Lead/Manager to lead a small team (4 to 5 people) of experienced engineers. TLM at Kalepa is a blend of hands-on software engineering and leadership. The candidate needs to be able to dive deep into problems, effectively delegate responsibilities, grow and develop talented engineers, and cultivate a results-driven, high-performance culture.

Areas of responsibility:

  • Technical: coding, conducting code reviews, and discussing architectural designs
  • Operations: triaging issues, investigating timeouts, and ensuring the stability of the system
  • Performance: improving latency of SQL queries and API endpoints
  • Cost: optimizing usage of cloud and other service providers to keep expenditures under control
  • Management: growing the team, delegating, ensuring important items are being delivered on time
  • Integrations: building and designing integrations with external systems

Note: This is a hands-on position, and you will be required to spend around 50% of your time coding.

About You:
  • You bring 6+ years of relevant software engineering experience, with at least 1 year dedicated to full-time engineering team management.
  • You have a proven track record in managing complex, cross-functional projects across multiple teams.
  • You're skilled at hiring talented engineers at various levels and building high-performing teams.
  • You can make strategic trade-offs to deliver high-quality code in a fast-paced, scaling environment.
  • Your expertise includes strong development and system design skills, with experience in Python, React, and AWS as a plus.
  • You're adept at optimizing APIs and SQL queries for performance.
  • You're familiar with monitoring tools such as DataDog, Sentry, or similar services.
  • You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
