Qualifications

  • 8-10+ ans d'expérience dans le développement de systèmes.

Who are we?

Biomemory, founded in 2021, is at the forefront of biotechnology and computing, focusing on sustainability. We are pioneers in DNA data storage, addressing the costs, space, and environmental impacts of traditional data centers. Our approach uses synthetic biology, automation, and parallelization to create data storage devices using DNA strands as the media, stored as polymers that require no energy.

After raising €17M in Series A funding in early 2025, we are expanding rapidly, aiming to grow from 22 to 50 employees by the end of 2025.

About the Role

The System CTO will lead the strategy, development, and integration of Biomemory's systems, overseeing R&D and preparing for market launch. The role involves fostering innovation and maintaining a competitive edge, including cost management.

This position requires close collaboration with the Chief Science Officer, COO, and VP of Industrialization and Partnerships, to develop and integrate biotech components into industrial systems, ensuring specifications and validation are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage hardware and software architecture, R&D strategy, and system integration.
  • Lead and organize the R&D team.
  • Drive product development to production readiness.
  • Enhance Biomemory's technical reputation through publications and conferences.
  • Bridge biotech and IT cultures with the executive team.

Desired Outcomes & Missions

  • Define and execute system strategy, roadmap, staffing, and budget.
  • Build and lead an efficient, motivated team, expanding by 15 within 18 months.
  • Lead product development from concept to market, ensuring milestones are met on time and within budget.
  • Develop and oversee IP strategy.
  • Contribute to the company's technical reputation through publications and speaking engagements.
  • Develop hiring plans, maintain high retention, and ensure cultural fit.
  • Set objectives and report on technical progress regularly.

Key Relationships

Reports to the CEO, with a team of about 13 direct reports in hardware and software, plus external consultants.

About You

  • Broad technological knowledge, quick learner in fields like IT, data storage, electronics, microfluidics, and automation.
  • 8-10+ years in system development and leadership roles in relevant industries.
  • Experience with hardware/software development, system architecture, and disruptive hardware technology.
  • Strong innovation, risk management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in biotech and synthetic biology.
  • Experience with commercial product development from concept to launch.
  • Strategic thinker with business acumen.

Location & Benefits

Onsite in Paris, with a modern workspace and upcoming relocation to a new headquarters near Sorbonne University. The role involves a 39-hour workweek under French law, with additional benefits to support employee well-being.
