Offer Description

A research engineer position for 6 months is available to join Maryse Lebrun’team at the Laboratory of Parasite Host and Immunity in Montpellier (France). Maryse Lebrun's laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms developed by Apicomplexa protozoan parasites such as Plasmodium (malaria) and Toxoplasma (Toxoplasmosis) to invade and develop inside their host. They have recently identified the first molecular players allowing the parasites to secrete the content of an organelle called rhoptry. Rhoptries are specialized secretory organelles that release their contents when the parasite comes into contact with the host cell. Rhoptry proteins are injected directly into the cytoplasm of host cells, allowing the parasite to attach and invade the cell, and also create a favorable environment for its survival and proliferation within the host cell. The applicant will contribute to the characterization of the signaling pathways that coordinate host cell recognition with release of the rhoptry content into the host cell. Specifically, he/she will use proximity labeling to fish key parasitic proteins involved in this crucial signaling pathway. You will join a highly interactive team working hand-in-hand in this multidisciplinary study funded by an ERC Advanced Grant.

Applicants should have experience in molecular biology and cellular imaging. Motivation to work in a multidisciplinary team is essential.

Applications must include a cover letter with a brief statement of research experience, technical expertise and interests, a CV, a list of publications and contact details of two referees. They should be sent to: maryse.lebrun@umontpellier.fr

The appointment will be financed by an ERC Advanced Grant. The position is available from November 2025 for 6 months.

The LPHI lab is located on the campus of the University of Montpellier, which provides a state-of-the-art environment for biophysics, biochemistry, and imaging including EM, and also includingbiosafety level 2 flow cytometry and live imaging facilities.
