The Collectif pour le Patrimoine des Comores (CPC) is seeking a structural engineer for several short-term missions during the months of July, August, and September 2025.
1. About Us
Active for the past 20 years in safeguarding and promoting the heritage of the Comoros, the Collectif pour le Patrimoine des Comores (CPC) is committed to the restoration and enhancement of one of the country’s major heritage monuments, the Palace of the Sultans, known as Ujumbe of Anjouan, Union of the Comoros.
From March 2025 to May 2026, under an implementation partnership agreement with UNESCO and with support from other partners, CPC will implement a major project focusing on the restoration of the Ujumbe and a series of awareness and consultation activities with local communities to promote heritage and consider the future of the site.
2. Profile Sought
This major project requires the involvement of a structural engineer specialized in the restoration of built heritage in the Swahili region. The engineer will assess the building’s condition and structural issues, and propose appropriate methodologies, working closely with CPC’s architect, the local engineer, master masons and carpenters, as well as experts in the restoration of painted decorations (ornamented beams) and stucco work.
The candidate must have experience in the conservation and restoration of historic buildings, ideally within the Swahili cultural area, and experience working with traditional knowledge holders in contexts with limited human, technical, and financial resources, as well as within international and sub-regional cooperation frameworks. A minimum of 5 years of experience is preferred.

The requested expertise concerns three specific structural elements to be restored in accordance with authenticity and integrity criteria required for UNESCO World Heritage inscription:

All travel and accommodation expenses (per diem) will be fully covered by CPC, in addition to the engineer’s professional fees.
