Staff Scientist for Head of Preclinical Cancer Therapeutic Development Centre for Translational Medicine and Parasitology (CMP) Institute for Immunology and Microbiology, University of Copenhagen

The Centre for Translational Medicine and Parasitology (CMP) at the University of Copenhagen is looking for a highly experienced and motivated staff scientist to lead and expand our efforts in preclinical translational oncology and therapeutic antibody development. The position is a permanent 50% shared position, with a starting date of September 1, 2025.

Your tasks

Responsibilities

As Head of Preclinical Cancer Therapeutic Development, you will play a central role in bridging preclinical discovery with clinical application. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development and preclinical evaluation of novel targeted biologics, including antibody-drug conjugates
  • Establishing and optimizing in vitro and in vivo models to evaluate therapeutic efficacy, specificity, pharmacokinetics, and safety.
  • Designing and overseeing assay development for potency, stability, and binding specificity, including transfer to GMP/CDMO partners.
  • Supervising and mentoring a multidisciplinary team of technicians, research assistants, and trainees.
  • Driving regulatory documentation efforts, including drafting sections of IMPDs
  • Collaborating closely with internal groups and external partners to ensure the efficient transfer of technologies into clinical development.
  • Coordinating activities across multiple translational projects involving cancer, malaria, and immunotherapy platforms.
  • Managing SOP development, quality control strategies, and compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Profile

Essential Experience And Skills

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:

  • Postdoctoral and/or industry experience in translational research and biologics development.
  • Demonstrated leadership in therapeutic antibody engineering, conjugate development, and in vivo pharmacology.
  • Documented expertise in preclinical assay development, including cytotoxicity, PK, and biodistribution.
  • Strong experience in regulatory documentation (e.g., IMPD preparation) and interdepartmental coordination with CMC and regulatory teams.
  • Proven ability to manage and train staff, including technicians and graduate students.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

Desirable Experience And Skills

  • Hands-on experience with advanced animal tumor models (e.g., xenografts, syngeneic, and GEMMs).
  • Knowledge of glycosaminoglycan biology, particularly oncofetal chondroitin sulfate, and its application in drug targeting.
  • Experience in academic-industry translational partnerships.
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques such as HPLC, FACS, ELISA, and qPCR for therapeutic characterization.
  • Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field.
  • A strong publication record in high-impact journals in the fields of oncology and immunotherapy.

Terms of salary and employment

The employment as Staff Scientist (AC-TAP FU) is a part time 50% permanent position Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications.
