Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is seeking a Temporary Educational Assistant for a full-time 35-hour week, 10-month position starting immediately. The role supports special needs students and works collaboratively with teachers in a Catholic school environment.

Ideal candidates have completing a post-secondary Educational Assistant program and at least one year of relevant experience, with a compassionate approach, discretion, and basic computer skills.

Formación

• Completion of a post secondary educational assistant program (normally one year) or equivalent, plus at least one year experience with children.
• Relevant additional training is an asset.
• Ability and willingness to perform required physical tasks, including toileting and lifting.
• A positive and empathetic attitude towards students.
• Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information.
• Ability to work independently within a team framework.
• Basic knowledge in the use of computer software.

Responsabilidades

• Assist in delivering a prescribed program with special needs students in individual and group settings.
• Aid children in transitioning from home to school.
• Act as liaison between students and teacher.
• Attend meetings, take notes, and contribute as required.
• Create and design crafts, charts and teaching materials under teacher direction.
• Assist in implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
• Observe and report student behaviour, academic, motor and social development; prepare written reports.
• Assist with behaviour management, including conflict resolution and de-escalation.
• Provide feeding assistance and assist with toileting as needed.
• Maintain classroom routines and rules.
• Help plan and implement field trips for special needs students.
• Participate in general school duties and student supervision.
• Provide general classroom support such as preparing materials, copying, displays setup, and arranging equipment.
