Job summary

Skaleet, based in Boulogne-Billancourt, is seeking a PHP Software Engineer to join a product squad building a modular core banking platform used by banks and fintechs. The role emphasizes performance, reliability, and maintainability in production environments.

You will split time with backend PHP (about 80%) and frontend work (about 20%), ensuring end-to-end understanding of product behavior and contributing to testing and deployment practices.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from a top-tier engineering school or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years as a Software Engineer with significant PHP backend experience.
• Fluent with AI tools and able to leverage them to design and build faster.
• French language fluency (written and spoken) and professional English proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver critical features with high standards of quality, maintainability and performance.
• Backend development in PHP (≈80%), with frontend contributions (≈20%).

Skaleet builds the core banking engine behind banks and neobanks: accounts, payments, cards. Our platform runs in production for 30+ regulated financial institutions in 15 countries, including Crédit Agricole, Caisse d'Epargne and Nirio (FDJ United), and manages over 10 million accounts.

In 2026, Euromoney named Skaleet the best banking solution in Europe. Our revenue grew by 40% in 2025. We are about 100 people, based in Boulogne-Billancourt.

Our ambition: become the platform of choice for European banks and fintechs that want to replace their legacy core banking systems.

Context

As we support increasingly demanding Tier-1 financial institutions, we are strengthening our Software Factory to drive the evolution of our core banking platform.

As a PHP Software Engineer, you will join one of our product squads and build features of a modular banking platform running in production for banks and fintechs. Code quality, performance and system stability are fundamental requirements here, because these features carry real financial flows.

We expect you to be more than comfortable with AI: it will be part of your daily work as a developer.

Your future missions

1. Contribute to a robust and scalable technology foundation

• Develop and deliver critical features while adhering to high standards of quality, maintainability and performance.

• Work primarily on backend development in PHP (≈80%), while also contributing to frontend evolutions (≈20%), keeping an end-to-end understanding of product behavior.

• Ensure clarity, testability and long-term sustainability of the codebase, helping control technical debt.

• Contribute to technical discussions and propose architectural or design improvements when relevant.

2. Elevate engineering excellence (Software Craftsmanship)

• Apply and promote best development practices: clean code, rigorous code reviews, meaningful documentation and automated testing.

• Strengthen our testing pyramid (unit, integration, end-to-end) to improve release reliability and reduce production risk.

• Take part in continuous improvement initiatives within the team.

• Work in an Agile framework with strong attention to specification quality and to business constraints.

3. Operate in mission-critical and high-impact environments

• Build and maintain features used in production by financial institutions, where performance, resilience and availability are essential.

• Collaborate closely with Product, QA and Delivery teams to turn complex functional requirements into robust technical solutions.

• Participate in incident analysis, root cause investigations and resilience improvements.

• Take part in on-call rotations, contributing to service continuity.

4. Contribute to team dynamics and engineering maturity

• Share knowledge and learn from peers in a culture of collective progression.

• Contribute to engineering decisions and to the maturation of our Software Factory, bringing structure, rigor and pragmatic thinking to complex problems.

Technical environment

• Core backend: PHP 8.2 / MariaDB

• Nice to have: DevOps & infrastructure tools → Docker / Elastic Stack / RabbitMQ / OpenShift

You are a great match if:

• Education: Master's degree from a top-tier engineering school, or equivalent.

• Experience: minimum of 3 years as a Software Engineer, with significant PHP backend experience.

• AI: you are fluent with AI tools and know how to get the best out of them to design and build faster.

• Languages: fluency in French, written and spoken; professional working proficiency in English.

• Interpersonal skills: strong ability to collaborate with diverse teams, an excellent team player.

• You enjoy hard problems, have an entrepreneurial mindset and like the energy of a scale-up.

• Bonus points: previous experience in an international or European setting, or in a fintech or banking environment.
