Job description

The Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) Data Bank is hiring a Software Engineer in Paris (Boulogne-Billancourt). This is an opportunity for independent, modern software design within a focused, science-driven unit. You'll architect robust tooling and modernize the infrastructure behind global nuclear simulation code distribution and scientific data pipelines.

What you'll be doing:

• Take technical ownership of modernizing the Computer Program Service (CPS) workflow, from data architecture to deployment.
• Design clean, maintainable APIs and web services (Python, FastAPI, Django/DRF).
• Build modern CI/CD, containerized workflows (Docker), and database infrastructure (SQL/relational DBs) for long-term production stability.
• Implement modern architectures to transition legacy scientific tools into reliable, contemporary codebases.
• Explore integrations with modern AI/data tooling (RAG pipelines, LLMs) where relevant to scientific data retrieval.

Key Requirements:

• 2+ years of software engineering experience.
• Solid hands-on background in Python, FastAPI or Django/DRF, and SQL.
• Comfort with Git, Docker, and CI/CD automation.
• Fluency in either English or French, with basic familiarity/willingness to pick up the other (French lessons provided).
• Must be a national of an OECD or NEA member country (residence permit, if needed, will be arranged by the OECD).

Role Details:

• Location: Paris region, France (Full-time, up to 2 days a week teleworking)
• Contract: 24-month fixed-term appointment (renewable up to 36 months)
• Compensation: Starting at €5,279 / month net (exempt from French income tax) plus applicable allowances.
