About The Role

We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our Accounting team, a vital part of the Spend Management Group at Spendesk. You will work on one of our core products - the Spend Management platform - in a highly skilled and collaborative environment. This role offers the chance to build scalable, secure, and reliable systems at the heart of our product.

In the Accounting team, you will collaborate with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to deliver a top-tier card spend management experience while ensuring system reliability and scalability.

Our mission is to help accountants save time during monthly closing by interacting with external APIs, automating processes, and enhancing user experience for faster bookkeeping. We work closely with other engineering teams across Spendesk.

This position provides broad exposure, from technical design and development to operations and process improvements, ideal for someone interested in the full software development lifecycle.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain core components of Spendesk's accounting offerings.
• Implement secure and efficient APIs for accounting flows and build internal tools.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to clarify requirements and contribute to technical design.
• Write well-documented, maintainable, and tested code to ensure platform resilience and evolvability.
• Participate in monitoring and alerting systems to maintain system reliability and proactively address issues.
• Engage in code reviews and knowledge sharing to improve engineering practices.
• Work with internal teams to investigate issues and enhance operational processes.

Who you are

• 3+ years of experience as a Fullstack Software Engineer.
• Proficient with Node.js or modern frontend frameworks (React, VueJS, Angular) and TypeScript in production.
• Experienced in building and maintaining REST APIs in high-availability environments.
• Interested in learning about event-driven architecture. Skilled in SQL and relational database design (PostgreSQL preferred).
• Experience with comprehensive testing and modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Comfortable collaborating across engineering, product, compliance, and operations teams.
• Fluent in English (spoken and written).

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated financial environments or accounting systems.
• Experience deploying applications on cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Terraform, Kafka.
• Familiarity with systems observability tools like Datadog.
• Strong system design skills for scalability, fault tolerance, and high performance.
