1. POST CONTEXT AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The NATO Science & Technology Organization (STO) helps position the Nations and NATO’s S&T investments as strategic enablers of knowledge and technical advantage for NATO and partner nations.

The STO Collaboration Support Office (CSO), as part of the STO, provides support to S&T activities conducted through various committees and working groups.

Under the authority of the Branch Head (CIS Support), the incumbent will set up sound and video equipment for meetings, serve as a first-line user support technician, and support classified and non-classified communication systems. The role requires autonomy in routine tasks and problem-solving.

2. FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
  • Setting up and operating audiovisual equipment for events and meetings.
  • Identifying and resolving technical issues to ensure optimal performance.
  • Providing user training and support for audiovisual equipment and VTC software.
  • Developing SOPs and manuals to increase user autonomy.
  • Researching and evaluating new conference products.
  • Maintaining conference facilities and supporting classified systems.
  • Supporting network design, planning, and maintenance.
  • Providing end-user ICT support and managing incident lifecycle services.
  • Managing inventory, spare parts, and COMSEC support.
  • Performing additional duties as directed, including occasional travel and on-call support.
3. REPORTING LINES

The Senior Technician reports to the Branch Head (CIS Support).

4. QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL

  • In-depth knowledge of audiovisual and conference systems.
  • Experience operating audiovisual equipment and supporting events.
  • Knowledge of Service Management tools.
  • Good communication and diplomatic skills.

Education/Training: Higher secondary education plus advanced vocational training in audiovisual technology, with at least 5 years of relevant experience.

Language: Good knowledge of one NATO language and a fair knowledge of the other, mainly working in English.

DESIRABLE

  • Familiarity with NATO Information Security policies.
  • Experience with ICT support, certifications, and network tools.
  • Knowledge of Wi-Fi, VTC systems, network cabling, and documentation skills.

Additional certifications and language skills are advantageous.

5. COMPETENCIES

Includes personal attributes like reliability, judgment, initiative, flexibility, and travel willingness; managerial responsibilities; professional contacts; and contribution to objectives.

6. SECURITY CLEARANCE LEVEL

The applicant must be eligible for NATO Cosmic Top Secret clearance.

7. WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Typically in an open office, with occasional noise exposure, long hours, and travel.

8. EMPLOYMENT TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Position at grade G10, with a starting salary of Euro 5,241/month, plus allowances. Benefits include leave, insurance, pension, and expatriation allowances. Contract duration is three years, contingent on security clearance and medical fitness.
