Qualifications

Description

Our Client is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior System Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of engineering tasks from administrative to strategic. The job location is in downtown Toronto, Canada.


Accountabilities:

  1. Primary responsible for the requirements management on the project and assuring accuracy of the information within the requirements management tool.
  2. Lead scope/requirement discussions with technical teams and customer.
  3. Lead System Requirements effort and maintain the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM).
  4. Manage the system requirements to assure agreement with the customer and compliance with the technical teams.
  5. Decompose System Requirements to lower-level elements and work with the engineering teams to ensure proper allocation.
  6. Acquire deep understanding of subsystems provided by external suppliers and ensure compatibility at system level.
  7. Support development of Concept of Operations for the project including identifying operational scenarios and use cases.
  8. Support System Architecture for the project (logical, functional, and physical architectures).
  9. Serve as the project’s cross-functional technical interface between product development, engineering, manufacturing, verification & validation, commissioning, and RAMS teams.
  10. Identify, define, control and manage system interfaces.
  11. Support project Engineering in all technical decisions.
  12. Active participation in optimal overall project technical solution.
  13. Support Customer design review and internal design reviews.
  14. Support lab, factory, and field testing.
  15. Execution of System Integration Test.
  16. Define impact analysis for proposed changes to the system and support System Configuration Management through the whole lifecycle.
  17. Ensure compliance with company processes.
  18. Understands and integrates applicable CMMI, CENELEC, AREMA, IEEE, IPC, etc standards.
  19. Provide support to Projects external stakeholders (Customers, Users, Tenders) and participate in the budget estimation.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  1. 5-10 years engineering with a minimum of 5 years as a lead systems/design engineer.
  2. Extensive understanding and/or prior experience with engineering lifecycles, delivery, and HW/SW integration lifecycle and demonstrate the ability to deliver solutions to closure.
  3. Prior experience managing small-medium sized projects and project teams.
  4. Strong prior experience with Microsoft Office suite, requirements management systems (e.g. Doors), product lifecycle management systems, defect tracking tools, and software configuration tools.
  5. Demonstrated ability to lead, engage, and manage tasking of cross-functional teams of varying skills/experience.
  6. Builds effective relationships and has exceptional communication and leadership skills.
  7. Ability to acquire deep understanding of new technologies with minimal guidance.
  8. Ability to communicate complex ideas to peers, management, and customers in a simplified manner.
  9. Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  10. Strong prior experience applying fundamental Systems Engineering concepts:
  11. V-lifecycle, System Architecture, Requirements Management, Configuration Management, Interface Management.
  12. Deep competency in interactions between mechanical, electrical, and software components in complex electromechanical systems.
  13. Success with multi-tasking across multiple projects at any given time.
  14. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.

Desired Skills/Knowledge:

  1. P. Eng for Ontario, CA.
  2. Experience with Construction / Civil Work and application standards.
  3. Prefer Expertise in any ONE or more of the following:
  4. High Speed Railways System.
  5. Power systems including traction power and medium to low voltage designs.
  6. EMI / EMC system integration and validation.
  7. Telecoms and Network designs.
  8. Automated control design and development systems.
  9. Conventional signaling control designs.
  10. CBTC (Communication based train control) systems and designs.
  1. Knowledge and/or experience working with Railway, Signaling Applications and/or ERTMS systems.
  2. Prior experience collaborating with a diverse, cross-functional team across multiple geographic locations.
  3. Knowledge of job-specific tools (Doors, others may apply) is an advantage.
  4. Experience in BIM design process.
  5. Knowledge of FRA/FTA regulations.

Education:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.

Languages:

  1. English - Proficient.
