Job Description:

The Aerospace Corporation is the trusted partner to the nation’s space programs, solving the hardest problems and providing unmatched technical expertise. As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we are broadly engaged across all aspects of space— delivering innovative solutions that span satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil and commercial customers. When you join our team, you’ll be part of a special collection of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Join us and take your place in space.

At Aerospace, we are committed to providing an inclusive and diverse workplace for all employees to share in our common passion and aspiration – to carry out a mission much bigger than ourselves.

The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.

As part of SEDOD, a Space Enterprise Optimization Specialist (Senior Engineer Specialist - Modeling & Simulation Engineering) will pioneer and utilize sophisticated simulation tools to perform high-impact design, optimization, and analysis in support of concept development, acquisition, requirements verification, analyses-of-alternatives (AoA), and performance modeling for space and ground systems across multiple mission areas. This technical leader will also lead and mentor early- and mid-career staff, especially in the areas of effective engagement with customers, career development, teamwork, collaboration, analysis techniques, and data visualization.

Work Model: This position is 100% onsite at one of the three major Aerospace Corporation locations: Chantilly, VA; El Segundo, CA; or Colorado Springs, CO. This position also offers a Hybrid work model with up to one day per week of remote work as business needs allow.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading teams of multi-disciplinary experts, coordinating complex technical tasking, and translating customer needs into actionable instructions for analysts
  • Independently building skilled analysis teams, defining project objectives and tasks, tracking performance, completing projects, supporting recommendations for customer decision-making, and documenting and presenting results
  • Leading sustainment, development, and growth of cutting-edge modeling and simulation capabilities across the subdivision to support new functional areas for a diverse and expanding customer base
  • Providing subject matter expertise to program offices and government customers in the areas of space architecture design and optimization; trade space exploration; and orbit, concept, and portfolio design
  • Independently developing and strengthening relationships with senior program office managers and customer senior leadership
  • Mentoring early- and mid-career staff

What You Need to be Successful

  • B.S. degree in aerospace, astronautical, or mechanical engineering, physics, operations research, mathematics, or a related field of science or engineering
  • Significant history of contribution to multiple substantial technical analytical or development projects through their successful fruition
  • History of designing technical studies and leading teams performing analysis or development in support of customer-driven projects
  • Skilled in optimization techniques, orbital mechanics, satellite constellation performance modeling, or satellite orbit access analysis
  • Knowledge of Python, C, C++, Matlab, or another programming language
  • 9 or more years of relevant experience
  • Willingness to submit to a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Counterintelligence (CI) polygraph for SCI access

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have:

  • A graduate degree in aerospace, astronautical, or mechanical engineering, physics, operations research, mathematics, or a related field of science or engineering
  • Work history in national security space or intelligence mission areas: geo-spatial intelligence, signals intelligence, space surveillance, space protection, ground systems, or communications infrastructure supporting defense or intelligence capabilities
  • Extensive knowledge of Intelligence Community or U.S. Department of Defense business practices, acquisition policies, or space mission portfolios
  • Proficiency with Unix or Linux platforms
  • Current and active Top-Secret Clearance (TS) with SCI access

We offer a competitive compensation package with a pay range of $151,300 - $226,900 annually. Salaries are determined based on education, experience, and skills.
