Job summary

David Kennedy Recruitment is partnering with a fast-growing AI technology company to recruit a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer for its R&D/Engineering team. This hands-on role designs, builds and scales core applications, collaborating with the CTO, Tech Lead, Product Managers and SREs.

The position is 100% remote within Europe on a B2B engagement, offering the chance to influence technical decisions while working with international teams and AI-centric products, including NSFW content.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial backend or full-stack experience.
• Recent hands-on Ruby on Rails production experience.
• Ability to independently design and implement complex backend features.
• Experience with high-traffic apps and scalable systems.
• Excellent English and comfortable working with international remote teams.
• Based in Europe with CET +/-3 hours overlap.
• Comfortable with AI companionship products involving uncensored and NSFW content.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend applications using Ruby on Rails.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to review requirements and translate specifications into technical solutions.
• Prepare technical integration plans, development breakdowns and effort estimates.
• Implement new features and improve existing platform functionality.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested production code.
• Take part in pull requests, peer code reviews and testing.
• Troubleshoot application issues and improve reliability, performance and scalability.
• Contribute to technical decision-making and product roadmap discussions.

• Work with distributed engineering, infrastructure and product teams.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role, helping design, build and scale core applications while working alongside the CTO, Tech Lead, Product Managers and SREs. The company's products include adult/NSFW content, so candidates must be fully comfortable working on them.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend applications using Ruby on Rails

• Collaborate with Product Managers to review requirements and translate specifications into technical solutions

REQUIREMENTS:

• 5+ years' commercial experience as a Backend or Full-Stack Software Engineer

• Strong, recent hands‑on Ruby on Rails experience in production

• Ability to independently design and implement complex backend features

• Experience on applications serving thousands or more monthly active users, with an understanding of building reliable, scalable systems

• Experience in technology scale-ups, startups or similarly agile environments, comfortable with changing priorities and tight deadlines

• Proven ability to take features from requirements through development, testing and production

• Excellent spoken and written English, and comfortable working with international remote teams

• Based in Europe, with CET ±3 hours working overlap

• Fully comfortable working on AI companionship products involving uncensored and NSFW content
