Job Description:

Job Summary: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Senior Research Fellow (SRF I or SRF II) for a two-year, renewable appointment in its Nutrition, Diets and Health Unit. This position is based at IFPRI headquarters in Washington, D.C., with travel to various research locations. The SRF I/II will manage complex surveys and evaluations, mentor junior staff, develop new research initiatives, and lead activities related to the CGIAR Research Initiative on Fruit and Vegetables for Sustainable Healthy Diets (FRESH).

Essential Duties:

  1. Conduct research on diets, nutrition, health, and well-being in low- and middle-income countries, focusing on multisectoral programs and food systems.
  2. Manage large research projects, develop work plans, coordinate activities, and disseminate findings.
  3. Design and supervise data collection activities such as household and dietary surveys.
  4. Supervise research support staff and mentor team members.
  5. Collaborate with program partners and stakeholders to design programmatic activities to promote healthy diets.
  6. Recruit and manage national collaborators.
  7. Develop and monitor project budgets.
  8. Publish research in peer-reviewed journals.
  9. Lead proposal development and research innovation.
  10. Prepare reports for donors and stakeholders.
  11. Engage with policymakers, researchers, and civil society to communicate research findings.

Required Qualifications:

  • For SRF I: PhD in Nutrition, Public Health, Epidemiology, International Development, or related, with ≥7 years post-PhD experience.
  • For SRF II: Same degree with ≥10 years post-PhD experience, recognized leadership, and extensive publication record.
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills and experience in managing research teams.
  • Proven ability to develop global research programs with policy impact.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral.
  • Computer literacy in standard applications.
  • Willingness to travel extensively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in a second U.N. language.
  • Expertise in dietary assessment and qualitative methods.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Sitting for long periods, lifting up to 10 pounds, and close visual work required.
