Description

The Director of Europe leads all London & Partners’ work across the European market with a team of VPs based in France and Germany, a Business Development Managers FDI and Trade based in Germany and the UK and a Business Development Executive to support the sales pipeline. Further to that, the Director Europe co-line manages the PR resource to be based in Market.

The Director Europe sets the strategy for L&Ps European activities, priorities / focus and is accountable for the success of his / her team.

He / she is responsible for winning new business and new audiences for London: supporting European businesses to grow and invest in London; working with innovative London-scale ups to expand into Europe; attracting event organisers to host their events in London; and advising our marketers who are running campaigns to attract tourists and students to London.

Purposeful networking is key to this role: The Director Europe will develop influential business and political networks enabling them to reach individually and collectively C-suite business audiences, as well as influencers and partners for consumer-facing tourism and education campaigns.

The Director Europe will strengthen London’s brand in the market, positioning London as a city of creative energy and dynamism - and a genuine partner for cities and businesses.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team of London & Partners, the Director Europe is collectively responsible for the overall strategy, performance, culture and reputation of London & Partners.

Key Tasks

  • Leadership: Lead the London & Partners European team: inspire the team, set clear direction and accountability, ensure high performance, create a culture of continuous personal development.
  • Strategy and Planning: With MD Markets and the Senior Leadership Team, develop the country plan for Germany, which sets out how our work in Germany will contribute to economic growth for London. Lead the team to deliver the German regional plan successfully.
  • Network: Build and maintain an outstanding network of business leaders, policy makers, investors, alumni, entrepreneurs, corporates, brands and media in the priority sectors for London.
  • Partnerships: Secure and manage private sector partners to fund and scale activity in Germany, working closely with the partnerships teams in London.
  • Inward investment: Generate contestable inward investment leads and influence them to invest in London, working closely with colleagues in the Foreign Direct Investment and Sector teams in London and our commercial partners.
  • Trade: Support high-growth London businesses to expand into Germany by connecting them with networks of customers, investors, partners and suppliers in Germany, and hosting Trade Missions in key cities across Europe.
  • Representing London and London & Partners: Lead spokesperson for London & Partners in Europe.
  • Stakeholders: Establish and maintain good and active relationships with senior UK government officials (Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Department for International Trade VisitBritain) in Europe to ensure collaboration on marketing initiatives, industry intelligence and training programs, sector campaigns and pipeline management.
  • Intelligence and insights: Collaborate with London & Partners teams and share audience and market insights, best practice and learnings.
  • Finance: Set the budget for the team, ensure budget responsibility and accountability.
  • Innovation: Create a culture of continuous innovation in the team, ensuring that L&P's work in Europe evolves with industry best practice.
  • Corporate Leadership: With colleagues in the Senior Leadership Team: ensure that L&P meets its objectives, manage its corporate reputation and culture, and ensure continued high levels of staff engagement.

You’ll have / bring

  • Experience of business development or consultancy in an international environment, Excellent account and relationship building skills at C-suite level
  • Compelling public speaker, media trained is desirable
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability in negotiating and influencing
  • Experience of building, leading and developing high performing teams focused on delivering clear outcomes
  • Experience of managing reputation and risk
  • Experience in managing remote teams
