eXalt, a fast-growing technology company in the optics space, is seeking a Lead Optical Systems Engineer to take ownership of the optical discipline across its products. You will drive architecture, modelling and integration from concept to hardware validation on dedicated test benches.

You will lead a small team, mentor engineers, and collaborate with suppliers and laboratories to ensure robust optical performance, meeting demanding space and defence-grade requirements.

Qualifications

• Master’s, Engineering degree or PhD in optics, photonics, physics or related discipline.
• Experience designing, analysing, integrating and validating complex optical systems.
• Delivered optical systems end-to-end from design to hardware testing.

Responsabilités

• Own optical discipline across products and lead system-level analyses.
• Design optical trains with complete prescriptions for manufacturing or procurement.
• Build optical models to assess image quality, transmission and tolerance sensitivity.
• Develop and maintain analytical models to validate numerical simulations.
• Define and defend optical error budgets during design reviews.
• Lead design-to-hardware transition with component selection and test campaigns.
• Specify and procure optical ground support equipment and metrology tools.
• Compare predicted vs. measured performance and feed insights back into models.
• Lead supplier interactions: RFQs, design reviews, acceptance criteria.
