Job summary

Rivercell in Paris is seeking a hands-on Microfluidics Engineer to develop the fluidic operating system of Rivercell's platform and enable high-throughput cell biology. You will select and optimize carrier oils, surfactants, and formulations to control droplets while preserving cell viability, and you will bridge microfluidics with interfacial chemistry and cell biology.

Qualifications

• PhD in microfluidics, chemical engineering, physical chemistry, soft matter, bioengineering, biophysics, or related field.
• 4+ years of hands-on experience developing microfluidic systems, multiphase formulations, emulsions, or droplet-based assays.
• Strong understanding of wetting, interfacial tension, surfactants, emulsions, and transport phenomena.
• Fluency in English; professional French helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Select and optimize carrier oils based on viscosity, conductivity, stability, and biocompatibility.
• Select and optimize surfactants to control droplet stability, wetting, and cell adhesion.
• Build formulation maps linking composition, temperature, droplet size, and actuation performance.
• Evaluate formulations for cell viability, morphology, and assay performance.
• Adapt fluidic system to complex media including salts, serum, proteins, and cells.
• Characterize interfacial tension, viscosity, and emulsion stability.
• Minimize cross-talk, reagent loss, and contamination between droplets.
• Define chip priming, loading, bubble-removal, and cleaning procedures.
• Design diagnostic experiments and translate results into specifications.
