Senior Legal Counsel

What you do

The Senior Legal Counsel will report to the Head of Health Legal and the Legal Manager (Contracts / Products), playing a pivotal role in delivering comprehensive legal support across various business functions. This position is essential for ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations and aligning legal strategies with the organization’s strategic objectives. The role requires strong communication skills and a proactive, solution-oriented approach to legal matters, with a robust understanding of the business models pursued by the LoB Health.

  1. Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal guidance on local contractual matters affecting Sales, Underwriting, Procurement, and Operations, supporting internal stakeholders in negotiations. Navigate complex corporate legal issues and daily business activities specific to the jurisdiction.
  2. Contract Drafting and Negotiation: Lead the drafting, reviewing, and negotiating of Business or Corporate contracts including distribution, outsourcing, Business Partners contracts, reinsurance, and retrocession agreements, ensuring compliance with local legislation and alignment with global business strategies.
  3. Audit Support: Collaborate effectively with teams to ensure prompt and thorough responses to audit findings, focusing on legal implications and compliance with regulatory standards.
  4. Legal Tools and Databases: Develop and maintain legal tools and databases, ensuring they reflect current legal practices and standards relevant to the BU / SubRegion.
  5. Group Insurance Management Program: Support the implementation of the Group Insurance Management Program, ensuring all legal aspects are addressed and compliant with local requirements.
  6. Antitrust Program Implementation: Work with the Antitrust Program Coordinator to ensure effective local implementation of the Anti-Trust Program, maintaining compliance with applicable laws.
  7. Support for Legal Head: Provide assistance to the Legal Head of BU / SubRegion on various legal matters, contributing to strategic development, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance efforts.

What you bring

  • A relevant law degree and a valid EU legal qualification are required, ensuring a strong foundation in legal principles.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience as a qualified lawyer, either in a law firm or in-house, with a focus on complex legal issues relevant to the insurance industry.
  • Solid knowledge in diverse legal fields, including insurance contract law, corporate law, supervisory law, and litigation processes.
  • Structured and analytical mindset to tackle complex problems while remaining adaptable to changing business environments.
  • Resilience under pressure.
  • Ability to foster strong collaboration across departments, effectively engaging with colleagues to achieve shared goals.
  • Deliver clear, professional legal advice in both written and oral formats, particularly in contractual matters, distribution, and marketing.
  • Understanding the intersection of legal requirements and business objectives, actively supporting Allianz Partners in achieving strategic goals.
  • Fluent business English and local language; proficiency in additional languages is advantageous.
  • Expertise in data collection techniques to gather and analyze relevant data for business insights.
  • Ability to address and mitigate security threats through effective incident response and management of information security frameworks.
