Senior / Lead Safety engineer


Join our dynamic team as a Senior/Lead Safety Engineer and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy solutions. As part of a leading engineering and technology company, you will contribute to projects in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and energy transition sectors, all while working in the vibrant city of Lyon, France.


Role Overview

• Identify and qualify Major Accident Events.
• Design and implement prevention, control, mitigation, and protection measures.
• Provide safe design to protect Personnel, Environment, and Assets.
• Manage the Safety team of the project, ensuring quality deliverables.
• Participate in safety reviews (HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, etc.).
• Conduct plot plan reviews and 3D model reviews.
• Identify Safety Critical Elements (SCEs) and associated Criticality ratings.
• Classify hazardous areas and implement passive fire protection measures.
• Design active fire protection systems including firewater pumps and deluge systems.
• Oversee flammable gas, toxic gas, and fire detection systems.
• Ensure personnel protection and develop escape, evacuation, and rescue plans.
• Specify and requisition firefighting and personnel protection equipment.

Skills & Qualifications

• HSE expertise: Strong knowledge in Health, Safety, and Environment practices.
• Risk Analysis: Proficient in conducting risk assessments and safety reviews.
• Team Management: Experience in leading and mentoring safety engineering teams.
• Communication Skills: Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to address safety challenges effectively.
• Multicultural Adaptability: Ability to work collaboratively in diverse environments.

Education & Experience

• Qualifications: Chartered Engineer with a background in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or Safety Engineering.
• Experience: Over 8 years in Safety engineering within oil and gas industries, petrochemistry, energy transition, mining, or pharmacy.
