Overview
Game Path is working with a small independent console game development studio based in the heart of Bordeaux’s vibrant tech and creative scene. We are actively seeking a Senior Game Programmer to join their growing team on a newly developed and original Platformer title.
The role is permanent and Hybrid (3 days a week on site) – All applicants must be prepared to work on this basis and situated within a commutable distance to Bordeaux.
Role Overview
As a Senior Game Programmer, you will be a cornerstone of the programming team, driving technical excellence and supporting the entire development pipeline. Working in Unreal Engine, you will design, implement, optimize, and maintain core systems and gameplay mechanics for a next-generation console release. You will collaborate closely with designers, artists, and other engineers to bring ambitious gameplay concepts to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain gameplay systems, tools, and features in Unreal Engine (C++/Blueprints) for a console platform title.
- Work with game designers to translate creative ideas into robust, scalable technical implementations.
- Optimize performance for console hardware, identifying bottlenecks and improving memory, CPU, and GPU efficiency.
- Mentor and guide junior programmers, setting coding standards and ensuring best practices across the team.
- Collaborate with technical leads on architecture decisions, helping shape the project’s technical roadmap.
- Debug, profile, and resolve complex technical issues across multiple game systems.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the studio’s coding practices, pipelines, and tools.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of professional experience in game programming, with at least one shipped console title.
- Strong expertise with Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5), including both C++ and Blueprints.
- Solid knowledge of console architecture and performance optimization techniques.
- Experience working on platform or large-scale titles (open-world, action, adventure, or similar scope).
- Ability to balance creative collaboration with technical constraints.
- Strong debugging, profiling, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both within programming and cross-discipline teams.
- Fluent in English (French is a plus, but not required).
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with multiplayer/networked features in Unreal.
- Knowledge of AI systems, animation programming, or physics integration.
- Background in developing tools and pipelines to support design or art teams.
- Familiarity with next-gen console development kits.
