Job Description

We are seeking a highly capable Senior Environmental Technical Claims Specialist to join our team. The role can be based at one of our offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Omaha, Richmond (VA), Rockwood (PA), or San Antonio, or remote from the continental United States. The position reports to a manager in New York City and focuses on adjudicating first- and third-party commercial environmental claims (primarily complex storage tank claims) to deliver superb results for our clients.

Responsibilities
  • Adjudicate commercial environmental claims at the highest authority limits with complex technical content, under limited oversight and broad management direction.
  • Conduct detailed information gathering, analysis, and investigation to resolve issues that are numerous and undefined.
  • Report to senior management and underwriters on claims trends and developments.
  • Analyze claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions, and other records to determine coverage.
  • Investigate claims promptly and thoroughly, including interviewing all involved parties.
  • Manage claims in litigation and ensure timely, favorable financial outcomes.
  • Maintain diary systems to ensure timely progression of cases and appropriate reserves, considering policy wordings.
  • Identify loss drivers and trends to reduce frequency and severity through data analysis and improved claim management.
  • Coordinate and assign expertise resources as needed for case resolution.
  • Prepare reports for file documentation and apply creative solutions for the best financial outcomes.
  • Negotiate with clients and claimants to provide cost-effective solutions within authority.
  • Process mail, prioritize workload, and manage telephone and written communications with insureds and claimants.
  • Maintain a strong focus on claim management and customer service.
Qualifications
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of how an insurance company operates and profits, including how this role impacts Argo Group and clients.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial environmental claims typically acquired through at least seven years of adjudicating such claims with exposure of $100,000 or more.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required. JD or two or more insurance designations, or four additional years of related experience adjudicating general liability Bodily Injury, may be substituted for the degree.
  • Licensed Claims Examiner (as required by state) or ability to obtain license in each jurisdiction within 120 days.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, evaluation, and strategic skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills, customer focus, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to articulate financial value to multiple stakeholders, including executives; exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • Demonstrates resilience, solution-focused thinking, and a global mindset; client-focused with strong internal and external relationship skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other business software; excellent written and verbal English communication.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Compensation

The base salary range is location-based and will be commensurate with experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on local cost of labor. In addition to base salary, all employees are eligible for an annual bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
