HyLight in Paris is seeking a senior hardware engineer to own the electronics lifecycle for autonomous hydrogen-powered airships. You will design boards, bench-test and integrate them with flight systems, working with external manufacturers to ensure robust hardware for AI-driven inspection.
The role emphasizes hands-on hardware, sensors, and aerospace-grade reliability, with strong emphasis on CAN/I2C/SPI/UART interfaces and power management in a fast-paced development environment.
Engineering · Paris, France · Full-time · Senior level
This role covers the full life of the electronics inside an autonomous hydrogen airship, from drawing custom circuit boards to bench testing, flight integration and working with outside board manufacturers. A strong candidate has about four or more years of hands‑on hardware work, solid analog, digital and power electronics knowledge, and comfort with microcontrollers and common data buses like CAN, I2C, SPI and UART. Someone who enjoys fast build and test cycles and can debug at both board and system level will fit well.
The airship's value comes from AI that reads the LiDAR, camera and methane data it collects, so this role sits at the base of that chain. Good sensor integration, clean power and reliable data links decide how useful the AI results can be. AI tools may speed up parts of design and review, but judgment about safety, weight trade-offs and what fails in real flight conditions stays with the engineer.
The work gives close exposure to the hardware side of an AI inspection product, including how sensors and onboard computing feed models that detect defects and leaks. Someone new to this could build experience by learning how the data pipeline uses sensor outputs and by working with drone platforms such as PX4 or ArduPilot. Seeing how hardware choices affect data quality is a useful skill for any AI-driven robotics team.
