The ideal candidate has 10+ years in electrical engineering with 5+ years in power plant installation and commissioning, and strong knowledge of grid interconnection

We are seeking a Senior eBOP Engineer to join a leading international renewable energy company as it continues its global expansion, supporting a portfolio of ongoing and upcoming hydropower retrofit projects worldwide.

As a Senior EBOP Engineer, you will lead the electrical systems design, integration and modernization for complex hydro power retrofit projects. You will be responsible for evaluating legacy infrastructure and engineer modern , reliable and efficient replacements that extend the life and increase the output of our clients hydro assets as per requirements defined by contract and applicable standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Technical Leadership: Serve as the technical lead for all EBOP components during retrofit projects, including High/low voltage switchgear, protection relays, auxiliary transformers, interfaces with layout, generating units, control systems, and grounding systems.
• Assessment & Scoping: Conduct detailed site surveys of aging hydro plants to evaluate the condition of existing electrical assets. Develop technical scope-of-work (SOW) documents for the replacement or modernization of these systems.
• Project Execution: Manage the interface between electrical systems and mechanical/civil disciplines. Oversee the commissioning, testing, and startup of retrofitted electrical systems.
• Problem Solving: Provide expert-level troubleshooting and field support during the installation phase, ensuring minimal downtime for existing operations.
• Compliance & Safety: Ensure all engineering designs prioritize safety, cybersecurity, and adherence to environmental and utility-grid interconnect standards.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Experience: 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering - with a minimum of 5 years specifically focused Power Plant installation and commissioning. Experience in refurbishment projects is preferred.
• Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of Power Turbine generators (hydro is a plus), excitation systems, machine controls, AC/DC distribution and substation equipment.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Proven track record with grid interconnection standards, arc flash analysis, and protective relay coordination studies and good knowledge of the IEC, IEEE, ANSI standards.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in industry-standard software (e.g., ETAP, EPlan, AutoCAD, or similar).
• Soft Skills: Strong project management mindset with the ability to communicate complex technical risks to stakeholders.

Languages:

• English: Full professional proficiency (verbal and written) is essential.
• Other languages: Proficiency in an additional language, such as French, Spanish or German, is considered a significant asset.
