Senior Django Engineer – Payments & Subscriptions | Contract | Paris Based, Hybird/Remote | Immediate Start
THE OPPORTUNITY
A client of ours is building out its Product Growth & Monetisation team. There is currently no dedicated backend engineer in this area, and it is blocking parts of the pricing and growth roadmap – so this is a high-impact, high-ownership seat from day one.
You would own the backend of the pricing and subscription system that sits at the core of the company's revenue, working across every product surface and directly with product and frontend engineers to ship and measure changes fast.
Why it is worth a look
- Sole backend owner of the revenue system – your decisions ship, no queue of engineers ahead of you
- Ships multiple times a week, monitored in Datadog; build, ship, measure, iterate
- Small senior team, direct line to the hiring manager and technical lead
- Profitable company, long roadmap – genuine extension prospects
WHAT YOU WOULD OWN
- Architecture and delivery of the pricing/subscription system used across mobile, web and API
- Optimising existing endpoints – driving down latency and keeping the system scaling as usage grows
- Building the backend for pricing and paywall experiments – assignment, feature flags, measurement
- Designing endpoints in direct collaboration with frontend engineers, with OpenAPI specs and docs
- Monitoring your own releases in Datadog and making decisions from real usage data
WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years hands-on Django and Django REST Framework (a hard requirement, not "Python with some Django exposure")
- Relational databases at real scale: schema design, query optimisation, and zero-downtime migrations on PostgreSQL/MySQL databases of 100GB+
- Production experience with SaaS subscription and billing infrastructure – Stripe and/or RevenueCat
- Pragmatic, ship-fast mindset and strong ownership – comfortable making product and technical calls
- Fluent English and clear cross‑functional communication
Strongly preferred
- A/B testing, experimentation, or feature‑flag experience (LaunchDarkly, Statsig, GrowthBook, Optimizely, Split, or equivalent)
- Some FastAPI knowledge alongside the core Django
- Background in a high‑volume consumer subscription product
