At sunday we are creating the future of payments. We are looking for a passionate and proven Senior Data Engineer to help us!

About the Role

Our Data team is small, product-oriented, and obsessed with outcomes. You’ll jump where the biggest problem is: data pipelines today, analytics tomorrow, a lightweight ML feature or an internal tool next week. You will:

• Unblock teams end-to-end: instrumenting events, modeling data, simple dashboards and lightweight services that get used.
• Own the data loop: define metrics, build/validate pipelines, and operationalize insights in product and ops.
• Apply ML/AI pragmatically: prototype, evaluate, and ship small models/LLM-powered features where they truly move the needle.
• Prefer simplicity: use simple modern stack, automation, clear ownership over complexity.

About You

• You have experience in start-up/scale-up environments, in fast moving and evolving organizations: your experience will be of great interest to us!
• You have notable experience in building data pipelines with high performance, high availability, and meshed ownership: we would love to hear from you.
• We expect our engineers to know how to unit test their code, to write easy to read & maintain code and to be comfortable doing pair programming with her/his colleagues.
• You understand that engineering is a team effort, you have an entrepreneurial mindset, problem-solving skills and you are looking for a challenging environment that will enable you to grow.

What You’ll Do

• Design and maintain batch/stream ingestion & transformations with tests, observability, and data contracts.
• Build a clean semantic layer/metrics others can trust; create dashboards, reports, and decision-driving analyses.
• Orchestrate with Dagster (jobs, sensors, schedules), keep pipelines reliable and debuggable.
• Product analytics: tracking plans, event schemas, experimentation basics (exposure, guardrails, readouts).
• ML/AI: Train/deploy lightweight ML models, explore LLM use cases, monitor data models
• Build small internal tools (scripts, admin panels, simple UIs) and, when needed, contribute to backend/frontend to close the loop.
• Champion data quality, documentation, and discoverability without slowing delivery.
