General Description:

We are seeking a Senior Conflict Attorney to assist our attorneys with clearing conflicts related to new business intake, while protecting the firm and its clients from adversity and risk. This is an exciting opportunity to help build a new team and have an immediate impact on our Firm. Periodic in-person presence is required for annual or bi-annual weekend team building events. Attendance at in-person quarterly meetings may also be required, depending on a person's location.This position can be based withina reasonable commuting distance of any of our U.S. offices.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:

  • Use elevated conflicts knowledge to assist the Firm in establishing a full clearance process.
  • Process the intake of prospective new clients and matters on behalf of firm attorneys.
  • Perform conflicts checks, review conflict reports, and identify potential conflicts of interest.
  • Communicate with affected attorneys to resolve any such conflicts.
  • Obtain accurate due diligence where required for processing new clients and matters.
  • Draft waiver letters as needed to clear conflicts of interest.
  • Advise attorneys on rules of professional conduct in relevant jurisdictions and practice areas.
  • Draft and communicate firm policies and procedure relating to conflicts of interest.
  • Answer questions related to conflicts of interest, business intake, and other firm policies.
  • Erect and maintain ethical walls and other legal screens as required.
  • Monitor changes in ethics rules, ethics opinions, and case law regarding conflicts of interest.
  • Monitor client mergers and acquisitions to identify and resolve conflicts of interest.
  • Assist with keeping all shared documents current and accurate.
  • Special project and duties as assigned.

  • Strong research, computer, and database skills.
  • Knowledge of conflicts of interest principles under the Rules of Professional Conduct.

Required Qualifications & Education:

  • 10+ years of legal experience, including 5+ years identifying and clearing conflicts of interest, preferably with a large law firm.
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and U.S. bar admission in a jurisdiction where the firm has an office.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Moderate or advanced keyboard usage

This position may be filled in Illinois, District of Columbia, New York, Colorado or California. Based on the required pay disclosure laws in these states, the base salary ranges for this position are listed below. These ranges may not be applicable to other locations. An individual's actual compensation will depend on the individual's qualifications and experience. In addition to the base compensation, Holland & Knight provides bonus opportunities and an exceptional benefits package.

  • Illinois – $143,300.00 – $214,900.00/yr
  • District of Columbia – $149,800k - $224,600k/yr
  • New York City – $156,300k - $234,500k/yr
  • New York State – $130,200k - $234,500k/yr
  • Colorado - $136,700k - $205,100k/yr
  • California – $149,800k - $244,200k/yr
