Senior Commissioning Engineer - Major Data Centre Project
Paris Area, France | Contract - Freelance
We are looking for an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join a highly complex data centre project in the Paris area. This is a technically focused position sitting between construction, commissioning and operations, with responsibility for reviewing commissioning activities and supporting the successful handover into operations.
This is not a traditional Project Manager position. We are looking for someone with strong hands‑on commissioning knowledge who is comfortable assessing technical work, identifying issues and challenging deliverables when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Review commissioning activities, test procedures, scripts and associated technical documentation
- Witness commissioning and testing activities in the field
- Review findings and assess whether systems and deliverables are ready for operational handover
- Identify commissioning gaps, technical risks, deficiencies and non-conformities
- Challenge contractors and other stakeholders where deliverables do not meet the required standard
- Review technical documentation, design packs, drawings, schematics and as-built documentation
- Support QA/QC reviews of turnover packages, O&M manuals and commissioning records
- Track technical issues and corrective actions through to resolution
- Clearly report findings, concerns and recommendations to relevant stakeholders
- Work across both site-based commissioning activities and office-based technical review and reporting
Requirements
- Strong technical commissioning experience (min 4-5 years) within complex engineering, infrastructure or industrial environments
- Data centre experience is highly relevant, while backgrounds in nuclear or oil & gas are also of particular interest
- Experience reviewing commissioning procedures, testing activities and technical deliverables
- Ability to identify technical issues, risks and deficiencies during commissioning
- Comfortable reviewing technical documentation and assessing readiness for handover
- Able to confidently challenge technical deliverables rather than simply accepting contractor submissions
- Strong reporting and communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical findings
- Experience combining hands‑on field activities with office-based review and documentation
- Curious and proactive approach, with the confidence to ask questions, challenge assumptions and learn quickly
We are particularly interested in technically strong commissioning professionals who enjoy working in complex environments and are comfortable taking a critical approach to quality and technical standards.
